Any foreign TV repair...or recommended repairmen?
Hello,
I have a Sony Bravia LED TV that has "ghosting", which means that half the screen turns dark. I took it to K-four, where I bought it and left it with their service shop. On a side note....I wish there was one service shop in Cambodia that looked like a service shop and not a homeless guy lost in piles of electronic parts scattered on the floor. It does not exactly inspire confidence. I kind of hated leaving it with him...but had already had a couple of guys lug it up there. So, the guy calls me a couple of days later and says it needs a new screen that is 1200.00. I suspect that he likely does not know how to fix it and is just replacing. Is there an ace TV guy in town...or a foreigner that could do the job? Thanks.

That is exactly the problem!
I picked it up from the first repair shop this morning and found a Sony authorized repair center....and was hopeful. They called tonight and said it needs a new screen for over a grand.
I really don't think that is the problem....but after watching several Youtube videos....I only want to start tearing that TV apart as a last resort. It might be a loose connection, but otherwise....I will not be able to trouble shoot the components....and will likely have to order them blindly at great expense to guess what it might be.

Ha! That's the second best video I've seen all day! I have a rolling pin.electron wrote:Try this fix:
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.
I have a feeling I will be taking that TV apart myself in the next couple of days.

Do you need to borrow a rolling pin?LoneStar wrote:I have a feeling I will be taking that TV apart myself in the next couple of days.

Watch a few of the videos along this line and you'll see it's a common problem and not to hard to fix if that's the problem. Otherwise a new TV is cheaper.
Update,
After two TV repair shops told me I needed a new screen for 1200.00........despite neither having taken it apart, I decided it was time to give it a go.
I can see why the shops say buy a new screen...you would just have to unscrew and screw on three boards and the speakers and you are done.
Although I made a few minor mistakes, I managed to get the TV apart with few problems. I saw the ribbons like I had seen on You Tube that hold a board down on the sides of the TV. I applied some electrical tape to the board to hold it down more firmly...plugged the TV in, and it worked like a champ.
The TV is now back on the wall and working perfectly. I did get a bit lucky that it was something simple....but often times when something is not working...you do get lucky if you just take it apart and have a look.

Well done, interesting story. I guess would-be techies are all drawn to phones and possibly laptops, nobody likes boxes anymore.
