Ahh, I though gym mirrors were for perving at gym totty. No fit totty in my home gym, except my wife manning the ironing board or the sewing machine station.2Che wrote:You could get yourself a mirror mate. That’d help with the deep squats.
Me doing heavy bare naked squats, veins popping out of my forehead and releasing a blood curdling war cry. My wife watching on diligently from behind the ironing board. The natural order of things

Legs day. Maybe the toughest for some, but you'd better do it. Not bragging, but I do a full hour, twice a week, on legs. I had been doing an hour a week, but that just doesn't cut it. Since starting on two a week, I'm seeing good results, definition, greater strength, gaining weight. It's all good when you don't skimp on legs. I saw a guy on Riverside once, all bulked up, strutting around, thought he looked like a really tough guy. This was about 3 years ago. He even wrote on 440 that he'd be there, in case anyone wanted to challenge him. Only thing was, it looked like he did the juice and worked out with barbells, but totally neglected his legs. Looked ridiculous. I mean SAD! Do legs - twice a week. Thank me in a couple of months.

As much as I agree with your sentiments, I don't agree with the amount of time you're advising people.
Exercising, bodybuilding, whatever, is all dependent on each individual.
Understanding your body type and your nutrition is just a couple of the key aspects of such a lifestyle.
Anyway...Legs in my opinion should be 3 or 4 days a week depending on the person, 45 minutes. Even super-setting is great. Never Skip Leg Day.

I agree, it's not one-size fits-all. Most pros say that the legs need to be done twice a week. That's for serious bodybuilders, not the average guy who just wants to stay in shape. For good health, I think 150 minutes/week of weight-bearing exercises are recommended. Plus cardio, of course. I tried two a day sessions, but after a full week of it, I was trashed; had to back off. I do 60 - 75 minutes of weight-bearing exercises most days. Definite overkill for the average person.

I was joking. Squat has always been my strongest lift, played a lot of football (soccer) when I was young. Pressing movements are my weakest.rgrowden wrote:Legs day. Maybe the toughest for some, but you'd better do it.
I prefer strength training to bodybuilding as I my main activity right now is Brazilian jiu jitsu, for that it's all about the core and you want good strength to weight ratio rather than size. Planning on my first tournament in a few months and want to get in the heavy weight class (84.3kg - 89.3kg), right now I'm usually 90-92kg.
At the moment I'm doing Wendler's 5/3/1, which has a variation for fighters. The gains are slow but steady and I can do the program at the same time as three BJJ sessions a week without getting burned out. I wish I could do 5x5 or starting strength, as I'm a below intermediate level lifter, but I've tried it and it just doesn't work while doing BJJ three times a week, I plateau really quickly.
You do any supps? I do 5g/creatine daily, and caffeine before a workout. That really helps me push it for a good hour before burning out. Need less time between sets to recover.

I work out really early, usually 5am. Usually have a cup of tea and a banana before on strength training, but go into bjj fasted, just water before.
After each take 5g creatine and scoop of protein with whole milk.
Also take fish oil.

I do two full body workouts per week, split over 4 sessions. All sets to failure. Weekends off. Cardio daily. Works for me.

What do you usually do for cardio?Felgerkarb wrote:I do two full body workouts per week, split over 4 sessions. All sets to failure. Weekends off. Cardio daily. Works for me.
I built cardio into my daily activities. I found an apartment I liked, 6th floor, no elevator. I carry all the groceries, including cat litter for 3, 2 blocks and up the steps, about 3 times a week, farmer's carry style. Lot of bottles of liquids; heavy. Jump rope when I feel guilty it's not enough. No fish oil, but flaxseed oil, plus vit b complex, vit d.
I've been going to Fit Zone for the last few months. ( $0,75 per workout)
They opened up around 9 months ago.
They got a squat rack and a bunch of benches. I would recommend going before 4pm as it does get crowded. They also have yoga from 6.30pm-8.30pm ($1,5)
It's located in the Russian market area
