DHL Scam
Recently I had two packages shipped to Cambodia by the DHL world-wide shipping company with its headquarters in Florida, USA. It was advertised as door-to-door shipping with all services included. It was not cheap, but I figured that they were a big name shipper and honest. Boy was I wrong!!
The dirty, little know fact is that DHL is scamming customers. The packages got to the PP airport were a "third party" fly-by-night" cheap shipping company received it in the name of DHL. With much difficulty I contacted DHL in Phnom Penh and asked them what the hold up was on my packages? I was told that a third party shipping company had them and that I had to come to PP to pay the duty as they wouldn't deliver to Sihanoukville. I contacted the headquarters of DHL in America and was basically told it wasn't their problem. After a lot more emails I found out that the third party shipper had totally screwed up the customs paperwork either intentionally or because they are as smart as a box-of-rocks. It looks like they and customs got together to set the highest possible import rate (and false). My feeling is that the third party shipper and customs were pocketing some money on shipments like this.
So far my Khmer partner and I have submitted copies of my signed passport and his ID card. Now they want more signatures, and we still do not have our packages.
The scam is that DHL is charging for big company door-to-door service, but using second rate fly-by-night companies, and those companies are not honest.

I’ve used DHL door to door in the past.
They called me to tell me the package had arrived but I actually went to their office at the airport to pick it up as it was more convenient for me.
I was actually quite impressed by speed and efficiency. 3 days after leaving an African depot I had the package in my hand. No custom fees to be paid.

As much as I hate DHL, they are the only fastest courier here when sending important documentation . They charge a lot. But I am not surprised that they are using a third party.I dontknow to cut down cost and secondly cambodia most does do not have household post box.
Were the recipient have an ID proving that he is the receiver? What is in the box?

About 5 months ago I got a BBQ from AliExpress sent from China to Kampot via DHL. The package was approx 80kg and arrived in Cambodia in three days which was impressive. The seller had an address in Kpot - best I could do was give a friends hotel/resort but it is on an un-named road which shouldnt really matter as it shows up on all maps online.
I got a call from DHL saying the package had arrived. "Did I want to come and do the customs clearance in PP? .... or they could express clear for $60" I knew that if I went to do the clearance then that would then be acceptance of delivery but in PP and then I would have to get it to Kpot so I got them to do it. Next day they rang me and said it was cleared but they couldn't deliver to Kampot as they had no office there - I asked why that mattered as all it needed was their driver to deliver it - sorry they dont deliver to Kampot they replied. After saying to them they accepted the package for delivery to Kampot they were responsible for getting it there they said they would put it on a bus the next morning.
It did arrive and to collect it I had to show the text msg the bus company sent me.
So it did get here and for the price of $780 foor the bbq and air delivery I spose I cant complain.
I have ordered another package that will come via another method - smaller package and I hope it gets to the Kampot PO

DHL Express is a division of the German logistics company Deutsche Post DHL providing international courier, parcel and express mail services. Deutsche Post DHL is the world's largest logistics company operating around the world, particularly in sea and air mail.
never used them, the times i have ask, they want too much. i figure it is so high because they have to pay off all the post office workers to lose your stuff.

I've had much better luck with Cambodia Postal EMS. Less expensive and most of the time you can track it. Have had a few problems with them,(usually due to the corrupt/lazy Sihanoukville PO), but emails to them in PP and a complaint to the Universal Postal Union in Bern, Switzerland (UN), usually got things straightened out. With DHL no one wants to take responsibility. So much for door-to-door service and their big cost/price. Bottom line lying international company.

thanks for that recommendation

I've used EMS to send stuff to Australia and also to get stuff from Aust to PP. No issues at all. Recommended.
I can 2nd the EMS. I have used them several time usually from china with free delivered to the local
Khmer Post Office. They call me when the package arrives make be sure the ph# is on the address label.
There is a small fee at PO like 1000R to 5000R seems to depend on the weight and as far as I can figure
for transport from PP to Ta Khmao but i really don't know

Unless you transport weed back and forth like nasty canasta. What is in the package that you sent to your boyfriend?
