Cambodia citizenship through marriage
Cambodia citizenship through marriage
If you marry a Cambodian you are legally allowed citizenship after three years. I understand that it’s not as easy as that, but it is the law.
After three years of marriage, and you’re in the family book and are registered living together, you should be able to apply with the Ministry of Interior.
What hurdles would one face, and how to overcome them? (Without spending $10k)

I posted this information recently on another thread.
Info for anyone considering attempting to apply via the marriage route...
You need to go to the General Department of Identification in Chbar Ampouv and get your application forms.
Together with two copies of the application form you will need the following documents (one original, one copy):
1. Residence certificate (Sangkat)
2. Attitude certificate (Sangkat)
3. Spouses agreement letter (Sangkat + signed by two witnesses)
4. Health certificate (cheapest at any local hospital)
5. Birth certificate (English)
6. Criminal background check (both from Ministry of Justice and your country)
7. Marriage certificate (+ authorisation to marry letter from the Ministry of Interior, although this is not mentioned in the application form)
8. Job certificate/ employment letter (if applicable)
9. Copy of passport (+ visa, although it is not mentioned in the application form)
10. 10 x passport photos
11. Other relevant documents in support of your application ie. Children's birth certificates, Carnet de residence, family book, etc.
You have to submit your docs at the mentioned General Dept of Identification, use the entrance on the right (Nationality), go up to the second floor, turn right, turn left, it´s the second office at your right then). Don´t forget to wear dress appropriately (trousers, collared shirt, shoes), otherwise the guard at the gate won´t let you in.
If everything is in order, there is a $500 application fee (yet to be confirmed whether this is actually the official fee).

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
First one: check if your country allows another citizenship in your situation. You might lose your original citizenship.OffRoader wrote:If you marry a Cambodian you are legally allowed citizenship after three years. I understand that it’s not as easy as that, but it is the law.

I don't think I ever heard of anyone here getting citizenship through marriage. As far as I know you have to be of exceptionally good service to the country in deeds, culture or financial investment.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

To be honest I've never come across these documents, I will attempt to obtain samples of each when in town and post here.
That checklist is a translation of the checklist given out by the Dept of Identification.

I presume everything should be accompanied with an official translation?
And where can I find the official application?
As i said in my first reply, you can obtain the application forms from the Department of Identification in Chbar Ampouv, it's on Google Maps.

Maybe because the required income to get married in Cambodia as a foreigner is so high.Lucky Lucan wrote:I don't think I ever heard of anyone here getting citizenship through marriage.
