https://kohsantepheapdaily.com.kh/article/608440.htmlPHNOM PENH, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) - An incident of air polluting smog has covered the capital after a fire broke out at the landfill site in Tlalie village, Dangkor commune, Dangkor district. The toxic blaze began at around 1:10 pm on March 13.
According to a local witness, before the incident he heard the sound of a gas explosion, and then there was a fire burning. No casualties were reported in the incident.
According to Mr. Tony Mony, Chief of Staff of Dangkor District, the fire could have been caused by the heat of the day. Direct sunlight on gas cans thrown into the dump may have exploded.
It should be remembered that approximately one year before this another fire broke which could not be extinguished. It flared for a week, and then it burned out on its own.

Smoke from large fires can go on for many many miles. You know, cuz of wind n stuff. The smell was terrible here last night, clearly smoke.ali baba wrote:That dump is miles out of town and it's misleading to claim the city was 'covered by smog'.
I don't know where you are in the city but Ive sure noticed it's been really really Smoky/dusty. The other night I was up at Le Moon and the amount of smoke/dust in the air you could see from the lights coming off of Naga was crazy. I was with 6 people and everybody was complaining of sinus problems.
Wind has been blowing steadily from the south-south east, it's all over town. Last night and early this morning was horrendous.ali baba wrote:That dump is miles out of town and it's misleading to claim the city was 'covered by smog'.
This reminds me of a Simpsons episode...

I noticed loads of smoke in the air this morning when I went out to a balcony to have a smoke, and I was 10km as the crow flies NNW of Choueng Ek. Does anyone have the co-ordinates for that dump? I've driven past the gate but can't remember exactly where it was. The most likely place I can see on Google Earth Pro is 1.5 km directly west of the killing fields stupa. If you look at the satellite image of Choueng Ek, there's an ancient circular fort less than a Km southeast. I only read about it recently in "King Norodom's Head", but anyway it's one of the oldest structures for quite a distance, I think there's a similar one near Memot. Supposedly almost impossible to discern from ground level though.

I think you mean west. East would put it in the lake next to the top fella's boulevard. The only landfill down there, afaik, is here https://goo.gl/maps/K1NyfDMi3V42Lucky Lucan wrote:I noticed loads of smoke in the air this morning when I went out to a balcony to have a smoke, and I was 10km as the crow flies NNW of Choueng Ek. You're right, I was checking out the distance in that direction so I got a bit confused, cheers, I edited it just for clarity.epidemiks wrote:I think you mean west. The smoke has gotten bad tonight in the last hour or so. Smelling quite acrid at the moment near Riverside. Looking out the window there is quite the haze.
Didn't notice it last night, but tonight around Toul Sleng it looks gloomy as hell and smells like arse.
Hadn't noticed anything until walking the dogs this morning, I guess the wind swung round a bit and it's quite smoggy now.

It was very hazy/ smokey when I was looking across the city earlier today. I hope they can actually put the thing out, aren't there dumps in the Philippines or Mexico or something that have been on fire for years? The amount of plastic in that waste is going to make for rather toxic smoke.
Edit, I really do hope they can put it out:
