At the time I thought parts of it were likely fabricated. It's not particularly well written and even if it is true it's not particularly relevant to Cambodia today.
Long out of date now, it was another time. They filled in the lake for a start.
I had to escape Thailand 2002,the goalposts moved, Cambodia became the new frontier.
Weather or not, real or not, it was totally believable.
Off the Rails in Phnom Penh.

Who is currently the longest serving expat inmate. Has any expat spent more than 5yrs locked up here?

cool???? came across as an arrogant prickus toolus maximus in my experience, which thankfully was only twice and from afar ( about 7.48m) at Victory beach, spoke to the locals like they were a piece of shit.
Always liked to read Off the Rails, thought it was pretty accurate as to the goings on at the Viet village. I obviously know people who indulged at that time. Ask logos, he would know.
I just thought it was pulp fiction, but of course it was not.

A French guy in SHV is in his 9th year with 1 left to go. Afaik Happy Hippie guy is still in. Cookie the Swedish guy that was blogging from Prey Sor in his early days was sentenced to 28 years which is the longest I heard off and should at some point become the record holder.Jep wrote:Is the Happy Hippie out? The only thing you could get anyone such a long sentence here: Supply and distribution of crystal meth, heroin etc. What did Cookie do to deserve 28years?

If I shoot dead half a dozen drug dealers would my prison sentence be more than Cookie's who never killed anyone. ? sorry, silly post. My wife says a man killed all family got 50years. 10years per person, a lesser crime than drug dealing in the eyes of Cambodian law.Lucky Lucan wrote:The only thing you could get anyone such a long sentence here: Supply and distribution of crystal meth, heroin etc. What did Cookie do to deserve 28years?

Ha! That was just something I threw together in a drunken stupor. I get really annoyed when I see how bad the spacing is, but it's sort of funny. I actually met the guy and that's a pretty accurate portrayal of the fucking creep though. What a total fucking lying cunt. What was hilarious was how many foreign women living here were taken in by his act and supported him. I wonder if they ever reflect on how they enabled an abusive maniac fraudster?
