I saw the premiere in the Olympic indoor stadium. While it's a fine venue for volleyball/ basketball etc it's not at all a great place to watch a movie, as most of the seats weren't facing the screen so I got a serious crick in my neck. Most of the audience were local. One thing I found a bit weird was these three old ladies sitting behind me. There wasn't much actual violence/ gore in the movie, most of it was implied. Anyway, this gruesome scene where the young girl walks along and notices corpses with plastic bags over their heads floating in a ditch. These old crones burst out laughing and started joking among themselves.McPhisto wrote: I wonder how the film was received locally, with the Vietnamese army shown as being the saviors of the Cambodian population. True as that may be, I don't know how that part of history is taught in Cambodia these days.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Silicone Valley is funny show, although it's pretty much the same plot line again and again year after year of how their huge technology breakout gets scuppered at the last minute, ruining their long awaited stock IPO or corporate buyout or whatever and they are forced to start all over from scratch. Hard to see the show lasting much longer as the once young promising upstarts are quickly becoming the old fossils of the IT world. Still good for some laughs though.logos wrote:Has Silicon Valley already been mentioned here ? Season 5 (likely the last one) ended a couple weeks ago
A HBO series about a geek who comes up with a disruptive algorithm and who is forced to become a tech entrepreneur. A great parody/satire (with guys who love the sound of their own voices), it brilliantly exposes some of the BS that's going on in the tech world with absolutely hilarious twists and turns, great characters and dialogues. Even if you're not a techie you're likely to love this show. I watched the 5 seasons in about 6 weeks

I've been enjoying this series recently:
https://www.netflix.com/kh/title/80175290
I find it weird yet fascinating. The reporter is an extremely cute young woman from Afghanistan, who often comes across as rather annoying and naive but at the same time draws attention to the trade in illegal wildlife products etc and is very informative. I'm off to watch episode 4.

AlphaGo (NF)

Surprisingly very interesting doco on one of the most complex board games of all time, Go. Lee Sedol the genius of the game is matched up with a computer that actually 'learn't' as it went along and amazed it's critics.
The computer Deep Mind (AlphaGo), changed the way the game was played and it's players.
Well done doco and a great insight into Human Inteligence v's AI.

I just binge watched the first two seasons of Fauda on Netflix. Excellent.
It’s about an Israeli undercover unit in Palestine, so it’s mostly in Arabic (and a little Hebrew), but it’s hollywood/Netflix to the max. Crazy part of the world that is.

YouTube Red is not available in Cambodia. Shame because the the first 2 episodes free on YouTube really got me wanting to watch the entire season in 1 sitting.Gin&Tonic wrote:Cobra Kai on YouTube Red for those that grew up in the 80's with karate kid.
On Netflix, the Jerry Seinfeld show "Comedians in cars getting coffee". I've only seen a few (Chris Rock, Ricky Gervais, Louis C.K.) but so far kinda funny.
I signed up for the first month free on NF but cancelled before the charges kicked in the second month. Just not enough content I'm interested in. I think their movie offerings are quite poor, and their original shows didn't catch my interest enough to keep it.

Tashi and the Monk.
Touching little documentary about a home for unwanted children (not necessarily orphans) in the Himalayas (Indian border near Nepal and Tibet) run by a Tibetan monk, a protege of the Dalai Lama. The young girl in the title is a wild one, who got a horrible start to life. Makes me wish I did something more useful with my life.
Not sure if this link works everywhere:
