https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44464913World Cup 2026: Canada, US & Mexico joint bid wins right to host tournament
Hooray! Does this mean the US team will automatically get to play in the 2026 tournament despite their total suckiness and ineptitude? I thought the home nation always got to play but how does it work with 3 countries sharing games?
Seems a bit unfair that some teams will get to play in the generally reasonable temperature of Edmonton while others will have to overcome the heat and humidity of Miami or Mexico City. At least in Qatar they all must endure the same awful conditions equally.

Probably, not decided yet but given it has increased to 48 teams they could justify that way.McPhisto wrote:https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44464913World Cup 2026: Canada, US & Mexico joint bid wins right to host tournament

I think we will rarely see a single host country going forward. A British bid would make a lot of sense.

Portugal 22-1 v Argentina 9-1 final? This reporter just wants to see Ronaldo v Messi. Both teams good odds at the moment.

It's going to be a great tournament - the orchestrator knows which strings to pull!

A Moroccan defender just headed in an own goal against Iran after a corner kick to lose the game 1-0 in the final seconds of extra time. Poor guy will relive that incident in his head every minute for the rest of his life. Hope some disgruntled Moroccan doesn't do a Andrés Escobar job on him.
Hopefully he'll get a chance to redeem himself before this tournament is over.

Ronaldo had a blinder, 3 goals... now he just has to pay the Spanish tax man $20 million.

Griezmann go home! (As Alan Sillitoe might have said.)
For those of you who don't know who Alan Sillitoe is:

Was it a penalty?
Is VAR faulty here?
Anyway, our Aussie friends have just equalised!

I love to watch the emotion of the crowds at World Cup games. Such passion and patriotism, and seems to be focused in a good way. I'm not a footie fan, but that's the best of humanity on display in the stands. On the pitch, not always so much. The dramatic diving and crybaby bitching to the referees ruin the sport for me. But the World Cup has long surpassed the Olympics as the major world event, by far.
And just wait until China and India make the tournament. That will ad 2 billion rabid fans to the viewership. China should make it in relatively soon. India might take a while yet.
...and GO Socceroos!!! I was hoping to see Tim Cahill play.
edit: Roos lost to France 2-1 but a decent showing by them.
