Hi everyone,
Im about to do a tattoo in Khmer, but i need the exact translate of it, because im not really sure about the one i have, i don't want a misspelled tattoo, you understand .
I want to tatto: "Far from eyes, close to heart"
I got something like: "chhngay pi phnek chit behdaung"
I'd like the exact translate please and how do you write it in Khmer.
Thanks

personally id use the word Kbaer over Chit, but both work
ឆ្ងាយពីភ្នែក ក្បែរដល់បេះដូង
Chhngay Pi Pnek, Kbaer Dol Besdong
far from the eyes, near to the heart
ឆ្ងាយពីភ្នែក ក្បែរដល់បេះដូង
Chhngay Pi Pnek, Kbaer Dol Besdong
far from the eyes, near to the heart
Mean Dtuk Mean Trey, Mean Loy Mean Srey

Thanks for your answer
I already asked by my side
I think i will go for : "ឆ្ងាយពីភ្នែក ជិតបេះដូង", that's fine? Which one makes more sense?

No you'd want to use a khmer proverb that is actually very similar but any khmer would understand
ឆ្ងាយកាយ ណាយចិត្ត
It means like the people are far apart, the heart will change
It is almost always a bad idea to do a one to one translation because the languages are so different.

that proverb means "out of sight out of mind" which is the opposite to what he is intending, he basically wants "out of sight, always in the heart"merchantsmutual wrote:No you'd want to use a khmer proverb that is actually very similar but any khmer would understand

Just choose any random letters that make a nice pattern, 99% of people will never know the difference.

Smart man! Thank you, I misunderstood him completely.Jamie_Lambo wrote:that proverb means "out of sight out of mind" which is the opposite to what he is intending, he basically wants "out of sight, always in the heart"merchantsmutual wrote:No you'd want to use a khmer proverb that is actually very similar but any khmer would understand

To that end, I found our original poster the perfect sentence taken from a (once) popular Khmer song:
ឃ្លាតតែកាយតែឥតណាយចិត្ត
It fits perfectly in that it means that only our bodies have separated, but the heart remain unchanged.
