Kampong Cham monitoring station is teetering on the alarm stage right now. PP palace station has gone up around 10 cm from yesterday. Still a ways to go.
I’m away at the moment but the Mrs rang to say the garden is flooded and the water has risen dramatically in just a couple of days.About 8 years ago this happened but that was in October and it was a gradual process. She says the waters thick with silt and mud.Never known this happen so quickly.Thank fuck the house is on stilts.

It's up to / over road 308 20km north of Kampong Cham, has been for more than a week. First time in four years, but still only two foot deep near the road.kansaicanuck wrote:Kampong Cham monitoring station is teetering on the alarm stage right now. Receded slightly today, and the MRC forecast says Stung Treng, Kratié and Kampong Cham will hold around current height for at least 5 days, but most of the southern Lao stations are currently exceeding flood level, so that's coming soon.
peak has past nong khai now and dropping fast probably dropped a meter or more from peak in the past day.
was still a good 2-3 meters under the prominade level at peak.

I was out on highway 6 yesterday and had the feeling that water levels have never been that high during the last 2.5 years. There are a couple of villages that seem to barely cling to the highway as the Mekong on one side and lakes/swamps on the other side are creeping in on them. I think some areas, roads and bridges cannot take any more water. some of the villagers told me they think it is because of the dam in Laos.

whoa three yellows in cambodia, i had almost given up thinking that the water was all evaporating into thin air rather than enter cambodia from laos. seems to be stuck long time at that lower flood point in laos

so the water level at pp port doesnt tell the full story unless one know how to translate the reading into what it means for other near by localities
truth is i wont be happy till migs reports he has sent a boat out for his cocktails

Those nearby areas aren't shored up or backfield and always flood. Anytime I've ever flown in during rainy season it has looked like I'm landing in a swamp until it's very close to the city.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Yes that's correct. It's common to see water out there while flying in, but I got the sense that there was more water than normal for this time of year. It seemed to stretch much farther out, with many homes and areas visible that were completely surrounded. I thought it to be pretty early to have that much water out there with over three months of historically heavier rain coming up.Lucky Lucan wrote:Those nearby areas aren't shored up or backfield and always flood.
