^^ Looking at that as i prepare to travel to the Mekong Delta.
"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
google maps cant find it with this spelling Chuoy Chvar
it has it as khan chroy changvar over koah dach ( island} and the mekong split and named as mekong in two channels so not clear where migs photos are located
edit: it also has sangkat chrouy changva over the peninsular across from phnom penh so assume that migs photo are from the mekong side of the peninsular . also assume near the ferry terminal shown
thanks

Yes you’re right, I just wrote it as a I hear it. After looking at the writing in Khmer google has the transliteration better than I did.Fa Canal wrote:google maps cant find it with this spelling Chuoy Chvar

A lot of people don't seem to understand how rivers work. They imagine that all the water that flows from the tributary rivers in Tibet/ Laos join up in some massive flow and it all ends up in the Mekong Delta before flowing into the South China Sea. It doesn't really work like that. Don't ignore the soakage.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Of course it's quite complicated. Any any rate the Mekong around here is approaching warning levels currently and is forecast to raise every day for the next 5 days. Looking at the photos Migs posted the the other day, there are places around here already with not much ground left, so we will see how things look after five more days of rising water. No matter how rivers work, we are at near the highest levels the river has been recorded at in years and it's forecast to go higher.Lucky Lucan wrote:A lot of people don't seem to understand how rivers work. It’s complex indeed, and I think about it in a cubic volume type of way sometimes. When it floods up river it covers more horizontal area, and therefore all vertical rise takes on exponentially more volumes of water. So it makes sense the the water rises faster at the beginning of the season, and then slower later on as more water has spread about (or drained into outlets like the Tone Sap). However, as Kansai mentioned, just seeing it at its present state, with months length of rainy season, does cause some serious concern.kansaicanuck wrote:Of course it's quite complicated. just by looking at the satellite photos i was ready to say on a couple of occasions that the storm posted above has no legs and not much rain and is moving too fast to do damage but it has now hit northern thailand and taken down the chaing mai -chiang rai road in three seperate places
so at that stage it was still in the mekong catchment zone http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30352417
