What would you do?
What would you do?
I have NO LUCK when it comes to apartments in Cambodia (see the link here for my issues 2 years ago: http://www.khmer440.com/chat_forum/view ... =1&t=56757 )
I presently live in a $450/month serviced apartment. This serviced apartment provides 24/7 security in the lease agreement. The security guard, rather than protecting my property, decided to take my bicycle out for a joy ride this morning when I needed it to get to work. Landlord is unsympathetic and says something like, "oh maybe he went to buy noodles at the market." I literally laughed out loud at the insanity. I did not give permission to touch my bicycle, much less ride it around time in the morning when I leave everyday at the same time. I'm assuming he didn't steal it, but that's unconfirmed. I ended up taking a $2 motodup to work and will need one to get back as well.
I'm an angry Italian from Brooklyn on my best days, and was on rage patrol this morning but have since calmed down a tad. I realize I have no rights as a foreigner. I'm also assuming the bicycle will be brought back. That said, I feel it's unacceptable, but I also feel it's a typical Cambodian funny tale to tell on internet message boards. Lastly, I don't want this untrained, low IQ guard to touch my property again either.
So, what would you suggest I do when I arrive back this afternoon? Speak calmly? It will take a huge effort on my part and I want this idiot to understand what he did was unacceptable anywhere, much less a place where I'm paying $450/month. Flip out and go ape shit? Likely will only make this situation worse.
How would you handle this rationally?

Or ............. steal his smart phone and hold it for ransom like the rest of the Khmers. Just sayin.

I love bitches n gonna fuck Texas and the USA+ right up their god damn ass! Hallelujah!
buy a locking chain for the bike on the way home. $2 moto sounds like you could just walk it

The $2 moto ride isn't the point. The point is it's a serviced apartment that provides free parking for tenants and a 24/7 security guard. Shouldn't have to buy a lock and chain in such a situation, or maybe I do!Fa Canal wrote:buy a locking chain for the bike on the way home. $2 moto sounds like you could just walk it

Pretty simple man. Speak nice and firm. If the landlord still think its funny dont pay him the rent at the end of the month. Again nice and firm to pass him the message.

Stand in the street and wait for the guard to come back from his joyride. Get ready to shout "Jao!" at the top of your lungs, and then do the most important part, "the point"...
Problem solved.

Insist on reimbursing you for the rides you had to pay - money talks - if they don't understand the words, they will get it if it is going to cost them. Doesn't matter who pays it landlord or guard.
But it is unacceptable. I would lose my shit

well sure seems like a stolen bike is an upgrade on someone posting shit into your damn house (what a read that was!).
Anyway guess Spigzy is right. NAME and SHAME publicly. And if it is stolen get your landlord to pay for it and if it aint then at least take the $4 off your end of month rent, in fact call it $10. Sucker wont do that again

I’m not sure any of those proposals about getting the $4 back are going to fly.
I think it’ll hurt you in the long run.
I understand your frustration. But stamp your feet, show them you are pissed off. Tell them that you’ll move out at the end of your contract if the security is bad. Just make a fuss and it *probably* won’t happen again. I guess though that this isn’t the first time that your bike has been used - it’s just this time you noticed.
One of my staff members broke their shoes once and had to go to the market so they borrowed my shoes (without telling me). Then they were longer than they expected at the market so went straight home afterwards. At the end of the day I had no shoes to wear on my journey home. The staff member is still with me (4 years later), but the other staff won’t let them forget it.

You'll end up having to call in air support, and eventually, possibly in a wheelchair, ranting and raving against the establishment.
sounds like one of those cute notions you learned it barangistan.Pecahead wrote:.. my property .. my bicycle
ask shampoo he'll tell ya, if you havent got at least 10 better to be 20 armed men guarding it, you dont have anything worthy of being addressed as "my"

Maybe he didn't want anyone to steal it while he was gone getting his noodles.
