Duties & Taxes On Car Import In Cambodia
Hi Everyone!
I want to know about the duty and taxes on cars import in Cambodia. I found 2 images but I am not able to understand the language and also don't know if those are the real duties and taxes currently. Attaching those images too. It will be great if anyone can answer these queries individually.
1. What are the duties and taxes on USA car import to Cambodia.
2. Can a foreigner bring car into Cambodia? If yes, what is the procedure and details.
Thanks in advance

They just hiked the import taxes very considerably on all second hand cars. The 2005 2.7 liter car I wanted to import went from about 10 to 19 k, and a small 2011 Toyota Aygo with a 997cc engine went from 5 to 9k. Insane.
You’ll also get stiffed by the sharks at the port of entry if you don’t use an agent.
It’s really not worth the hassle and grief.
Just buy off a reputable dealer, like CNM motors.

Import it while you can if you want it... rumor has it they'll be banning imports over 5 years old at some point in the near future.logos wrote:They just hiked the import taxes very considerably on all second hand cars. That’ll push existing used car prices up even higher.Miguelito wrote:Import it while you can if you want it... rumor has it they'll be banning imports over 5 years old at some point in the near future.logos wrote:They just hiked the import taxes very considerably on all second hand cars. Currently 83% of all car imports are used. As we all know, many of these are of dubious quality, safety standards, etc, and Cambodia has become somewhat of a dumping ground for these cars. In the past there has been hesitation to curb this as there’s been a desire to maintain a supply of affordable automobiles for the average citizen. However, there has been increased pressure from the automotive industry, plus a desire for better safety and environmental standards.YaTingPom wrote:That’ll push existing used car prices up even higher.Miguelito wrote:Import it while you can if you want it... rumor has it they'll be banning imports over 5 years old at some point in the near future.logos wrote:They just hiked the import taxes very considerably on all second hand cars. I don’t think this rule will come into effect in 2018, but it could be announced in early 2019. Or, it’s all just talk and keeps keeping pushed.

There are too many cars on the road here in Phnom Penh. I used to be able to get around in my part of town, it is now locked up with a lot of smoggy SUV's with a single passenger inside. I have to take alternate routes, spending considerably more time, even going to the local atm. Lets raise those taxes, I am all for it.
Cars are prohibitively expensive already so people will still buy them.
Remember it’s a status symbol in Cambodia. People would prefer a Lexus 470 outside their shack of a house rather than build a nice house.

I saw a car (can’t remember what it was as I was laughing so much) that not only had the tape under the door handle but also the foam blocks on the doors they put in for shipping so it doesn’t damage another new car!
Next it’ll be leaving the plastic wrapping on the roof, bonnet, boot and wheels. “LOOK AT HOW NEW MY CAR IS!”

The drivers invariably have no sense of spatial awareness so often stop when they have at least 50 cm on each side to navigate through. Added to that is the extremely frustrating habit they have of just stopping wherever they need to get a coffee or snacks or whatever, but rarely ever bother turning in a bit to park closer to the kerb. There are so many of those Indian style tuk tuks here now, and due to being a little less wide than a car or trailer tuk tuk, they try to drive up the narrow lane on the right, but can't quite fit. So they block all the motorbikes behind that could have used that lane. They really annoy the fuck out of me and are exasperating the already jammed up streets. Cars straggle lanes too and block up the streets like crazy. It's getting to be a real pain in the ass trying to cross town.newnewnewbie wrote:There are too many cars on the road here in Phnom Penh. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

I've read there are only something like 500-600k cars registered here. Vehicle ownership % is really low... yet look at how bad the traffic has gotten. Give it just a few more years when a few more million people will be able to scrape together every penny they have to buy an SUV. Phnom Penh is going to have some of the worst traffic in the world. I already can't stand it compared to even just a few years ago. It took me almost 2 hours to get from Central to Phnom Penh to the airport two weeks ago. Unreal. I find myself avoiding going anywhere across town unless it's imperative.
