Hahaha, you'd think with 18 months of straight losses they would have clued up a bit and worked on upping their game. Service always sucked as mentioned. Combined with food which wasn't great and priced a bit on the high side doesn't exactly make for a winner. I was always surprised they'd lasted that long, but I just assumed it was due to tourists (usually loud drunk Brits or Ozzies wearing singlets in the early afternoon) and the location.patcan wrote:Had a chat with the former Englishman manager while the place was being cleared out. 18 months of losses, worst in the 10 years he has bern there.

The problem was they had dudes working in there. Their target clientele (creepy Riverside dwelling sexpats and sex tourists) does not want to be served by dudes.

The two times I went years back, I was served by a dudette. The time it took her to make the trek from the bar to my table, all 4 meters of it, took long enough for me to need another haircut. I have seen sloths that looked like sprinters compared to her.gavinmac wrote:The problem was they had dudes working in there. This is part of it I think for sure. I don't remember them ever having much in the way of eye candy waitresses. Chunky, rude and slow isn't a winner with the 136 trawling community. (Or us expats it seems) did I mention the French press with soybean shit coffee?... Bleh..gavinmac wrote:The problem was they had dudes working in there. Was Adore always run by the same guy that ran Paddy's? A few months ago there were two reasons given to shut down the restaurant: 1) No profit for the last 18 months, and 2) Rent was going up.
Is it the same guy running it as before? If so, why the change? If not, that's the fastest handover, refurb, and reopening I've seen.

The seating area outside looks finished. Still looks like a building site inside.

I miss Canteena. Yeah yeah I know full of wanker journalists, very true and i told them that every time. But a few good ones too, and the joint was always jumpin'. Well, often enough.
Hurley, you gentle stoned soul, come back from the dead if you can. We need more men who will turn away the tourists.

I never went there a lot as I was new around and felt a bit out of place. I got to know a few of those guys since though and they've all been very good sports.Hairy-nosed Otter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 6:52 pmI miss Canteena. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
