Peanut Butter?
When I moved to Thailand, I found good quality peanut butter very lacking, or it was way overpriced. My solution, I started making my own, and then branding it and selling it fairly locally. I called it "Crazy Faring Peanut Butter" And put a pic of Einstein on the label. All the Thai kids loved it, and their parents did too, after a bit. I sold it wholesale for about a third of the price the shops were used to paying and still made 3 times what it cost. I was just getting it off the ground when my brother called form the states needing my help. When family calls, you go, if they aren't total assholes.
So my question is, are there any good, reasonably priced brands of peanut butter around PP or other parts of Cambodia?

Someone has a brand here already. I forget the name, but it is marketing well.

That's good. I like it. Mine was 100% peanuts, no salt, sugar, or additives. But, just like any other natural peanut butter, you had to stir it because all the oil comes to the top.

We have a great peanut butter here called VISSOT - French food firm in Cambodia. Both Lucky and Thai Huot carry it. Two sizes; 225g and 450g. Chunky or smooth. Ingredients: peanuts, salt. Price - $5.00/450g. It's good stuff.

What's the cost of peanuts? If less than 5 dollars per pound then the business case is there.
Is peanuts hard on the mixer blades? If so the cost of blades must be factored in though I suspect it's still a case.

I used to buy them in Thailand, roasted and cleaned, for about $4 a kilo. And you don't use a blender. Factoring in the cost of plastic jars, labels, delivery, and labor, I still made 2 1/2 to 3X my money. Doing it my way also gets rid of the salt. For the people who loved salt I just told em use a shaker.Dahon wrote:What's the cost of peanuts? If less than 5 dollars per pound then the business case is there.

It's not French at all. As far as I know the owners are Indian/Sri Lankan or something. I buy directly from them as well. Great PB as it's near inposs to find natural peanut butter anywhere, only cheap stuff with fat and sugar pumped in.rgrowden wrote:We have a great peanut butter here called VISSOT - French food firm in Cambodia. Wonder if they would make one sans salt. Or, if not, I will have to go back making me own.

I buy Kunthea's Peanut Butter. Locally made, priced well. Only uses peanuts and a bit of sea salt. Really good. Crunchy or smooth. Can be found around town. https://www.facebook.com/Kuntheas-Peanu ... 943684233/
