Don't worry. I know some will see my name and figure I am going to go on a hate rant. Surprise, I owned property and lived in a Muslim town in Southern Mindanao, Philippines for almost 2 years. They were very nice to me and were very sad when i sold the property and left. They actually stood up for me against some other native Filipinos who were giving me a hard time. This is very sad, and I personally hate when things like this happen, anywhere in the world. The slaughter of innocents is uncalled for no matter what race, religion, or country they come from. My only question is why they went from Australia to NZ to do this?

Gun laws in Oz would of made it very hard to access the weapons he used, we have had 20 years of gun management and this has restricted to supply of weapons, yes they are available - but harder to access than what is currently available in NZ.
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

What are you basing that comment on? The fact he used those weapons? You think that means it is easier to get them there than in Australia? That's an opinion, not a fact.

Strangely enough, NZ has the policy of licensing the owner but not registering the firearm, whereas in Aust. you are required to register your firearm.
NZ has high gun ownership but generally low gun crime, although slightly higher than Aust. who had an amnesty 20-25 years ago after the Tasmania massacre, with great success..
Both countries ban automatic military style rifles though there are an estimated 4000 Chinese AK style rifles in NZ that are unaccounted for because mostly that you don't have to register the damn thing. Recent recommendations are to ban military style SAs as well.
A lot of guns here, 1.1 million, but NZ not a gun culture per se.

Chinese AK-47 or Chinese SKS? The Chinese SKS were made by the millions and lots of collectors of them. That would be crazy if there really are 4000 proper Chinese AK47 style assault rifles in NZ.kinard wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 5:05 pm...

By Chinese AK-47, do you mean Type 56?

Yeah, I was wondering if that's what he meant. I didn't want to muddy the waters by properly calling it Type 56 when kinard said Chinese AK. I figured some could mistake 'Chinese AK' for the SKS. As far as I know the original/earliest 56's were almost exact copies of the AK-47s. Anyway it would be surprising if New Zealand did have that many type 56 or AK-47s

Also, people referencing Christians, as an opposite to Muslims, as though the attackers must be Christian if they aren't muslin, are simpletons.
Besides, he seemed to consider himself some type of Viking heathen with his declaration of 'see you in valhalla'.
Not that all heathens think the way this moron did.

Anyway, not AK47 or SKS used in Christchurch. It was the nut-job's favourite.kinard wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 2:09 amSKS, my mistake.kansaicanuck wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 8:46 pmYeah, I was wondering if that's what he meant. . AR-15s are legal in NZ but only with 7 round mags. His was maybe modified, to auto with 30 round mags.Hairy-nosed Otter wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 1:01 pmAnyway, not AK47 or SKS used in Christchurch. Yeah k, probably 30 mag.
Interviews with survivors tend to indicate a huge number of shots. Around 90 people hit.
Five guns seized but no indication if all used .
AR-15 only one specifically named as the weapon used.
(two were shotguns)
Interesting - that this assault weapon, with all it's terrible history, is the pre-eminent symbol of american gun culture.
