Are you sure his friends just thought of it as attention seeking. I have a theory about depression that makes reference to attention seeking but it definitely doesn't confine depression as nothing but merely attention seeking. And, had I known of this latest cry/call for attention/whatever you call it, I would never have dismissed it as just attention seeking. I am not suggesting none of his 'friends' 'cough' dismissed it, but I don't think all would have.Miguelito wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 11:54 amAnd we have a picture of the needle he killed himself with, but why would anyone want to post that?YaTingPom wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 11:42 amHis thread here is far more civilised and on topic than over on TOF, where they’re all throwing handbags around to prove who’s the most compassionate and correct in what they can and can’t say.
Someone even posted a screenshot of a post he made on FB, which was only available to friends (and he’d actually deleted it beforehand). Some people are truly thick.
Well done Lambo for trying to reach out. Once you’re in that dark place there’s no return no matter what.
I’m not sure what Gonk’s rant was all about, perhaps it was just to illicit responses or perhaps he just felt he had to let his feelings known. Regardless of Pete’s flaws, or anyone’s, suicide affects a lot of people around that individual, as posters here have mentioned it’s affected them.
It is a shame that he was clearly seeking help, and perhaps if he were in another country than he could have received the help that he needed. He had done this (threatened suicide) many times before so his friends appear to have become numb to it, thinking it was just to seek attention. It should be a lesson learned for anyone to take such threats seriously, no matter how many times they’re made.
I also have the following comments to make, as I am here...
And I don't mean this as an attack on anyone who says or writes it, just as something to think about. I think people say it as an mechanism of processing and managing the events....and what is, for some, a fear deeply within them that they haven't identified yet....
Pete, some say you went out on your terms
No, you didn't
On your terms would have been in old age with your love by your side with obstacles overcome.
On your terms would have been free of your addictions and mental torment.
You didn't want to go
You'd recently renewed your passport
You wanted to live
But, while in torment, you truly felt the only way to conquer demons and escape the bear trap your mind emotions and anguish were closed in was to die. You chose your method, but your death was not in line with the terms you had stated on your good and average days.
The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.

I actually contest that. Maybe it's true after the nth trip there. Edit...oh, you mean death when you say dark place? How did you get a photo of the needle he used to kill himself, that’s not in the newspaper photos.

Possible. I’m just hypothesising. I have never had any mental issues (believe it or not) not have any of my close family, to my knowledge, although my younger brother did talk about “throwing himself off a bridge” but asked me if it would hurt . (He died anyway but not by his own hands. Overweight, alcohol, drugs (prescription, see ——>) and epilepsy (Tonic clonic)- the latter being the probable cause.violet wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 2:36 pmI actually contest that. I do know that when people have decided to “end it” they are at peace and after the event people often comment how happy that person seemed. Yes, because they were free.
I believe (probably wrongly) the majority of people are pre-disposed to suicide and mental illness from birth, plus obviously triggers can play a part (trauma, brain injury etc).
Stories of young kids hanging themselves because of bullying happen quite often but that’s just a trigger. If those kids didn’t do it then they would have done it at a later stage in life after another trigger - stress at work, General depression, illness etc. I was bullied relentlessly at school but I never thought about doing myself in.
It’s human nature to want to survive (that’s why we get scared) and to turn that switch off must be quite difficult and tough.

Sorry people took that to be attention seeking, but took screenshots of posts just incase they could scoop the story / be the one to post photographic detail afterwards.
Cambodia expats.... I understand some of them (to some degree.... I accept it is a place where people will not step in to intervene in your choices and I accept that some have necessarily erected solid boundaries as self preservation), but I think this behaviour is something else.
Edit. Apologies. He sent it, they didn't screenshot in this instance. I'll pull my head in.

A pattern I see emerging is someone dies and posters here, or on TOF, use it to settle perceived or real scores. He's gone. How sick do you have to be to score off his death?

And congrats and respect on the Khmer language skills, outstanding!
What has Jamie got to do with this thread?
We all love Jamie (obviously some waayyy more than others). And for the record I’ve never taken the piss out of him ever, maybe over a pint I might have.
Anyway. Back on topic.
