What about when a person you know, face to face, and trust, speaks well of the person who is going to look after your belongings, and refers to them by supposed real name? Not so strange to trust a person to look after your things then.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 6:13 pmSure, if it was a known poster I'd take care of it for free, but I'm not about to give just any stranger my address.
I'll give you $50 to babysit my computer monitor

No, that is folly, because the trust that exists between your friend and the 3rd party is not necessarily the same level of trust you have with your friend.violet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 2:33 amWhat about when a person you know, face to face, and trust, speaks well of the person who is going to look after your belongings, and refers to them by supposed real name? The other consequence is when it goes horribly wrong, you will likely blame your trusted friend over the 3rd party, who has prolly left the building anyway, and lose a friendship.
The OP is a wrong'un looking for a fool.

Not that odd of a request/need. As he mentioned, other than the hotel you're staying at, there is nowhere in town for storage. I have about four cases of a mate's wine in my house - it's been a year and I've only taxed him two or three bottles thus far. I should probably collect another interest payment soon.

Exactly how is a person to know that a person you thought you could trust actually had a relationship with another that overrides your relationship?kinard wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 8:14 amNo, that is folly, because the trust that exists between your friend and the 3rd party is not necessarily the same level of trust you have with your friend.violet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 2:33 amWhat about when a person you know, face to face, and trust, speaks well of the person who is going to look after your belongings, and refers to them by supposed real name? Trusting people from different walks of life are easy to dupe.

I once let a 440 poster that I had never met before park his car at my house for about two months.
"We, the sons of John Company, have arrived"
The respect he got from his neighbour's was priceless.
Expensive car it was.
You should of been very grateful, it was like they added an extra bedroom to your house,
No need to climb up the stairs when you come home drunk.
Just sleep in the back seat of the car.
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

It's 9 years old, worth a hundred bucks, you pay 50 for safe keeping/ . I dont understand, Does it have a name. why is a fuking 9 yr old monitor important. Im sorry. Just seems odd.senechal wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 6:32 pmThank you for your concern Monsieur Poirot.
1) I trust no one.
2) It's not a "valuable monitor" (assumption #1). It's 9 years old and it has a market value of probably around $100. If you want to steal it from me, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Still... I'd rather not lose it to theft. Which is why I'm offering $50 to store it. My thinking is that it's frankly much easier to take a $50 storage fee than it would be to steal it and hustle it on the market for $100.
3) No, it's not in a "suitcase" (assumption #2). It's a monitor. You can inspect it. There's not much to it. It's a rather unspecial monitor with a crack in the screen.
4) I'll be picking it up myself (assumption #3).
That's quite an elaborate scam you've come up with there. I'm surprised you didn't suggest it could be an creatively concealed explosive device designed to blow up some random expat's living room.
To be clear:
* It's a computer monitor. It's not new and it's definitely not worth a lot.
* It's 2 weeks of time
* It's 50 bucks.
Sometimes the world is as it seems.

Would be happy to do but I believe you have a better offer from TOF, let me know if you need
I do hope the OP never took that bet.
