What you said , Springers mate,,it's interesting, to say the least.springrain wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 7:12 pmI did a few sundry calculations yesterday, playing around with 'ifs' & 'buts'. Looks like NZ are well-placed here, having played - and beaten - the so-called weaker teams. Then they are up against one of the strong favourites - India - and might yet get away with a point in a game they probably wouldn't have fancied themselves to win.
It's looking very good for the Kiwis at this stage if the Trent Bridge encounter is rained off; even if it is reduced to a 20-over-lottery, it would still give them a great chance of an upset.
If that were to happen, only the Kiwis & India would be unbeaten at this stage.
Cricket World Cup 2019
How the feck isn’t this over yet? How long does a match last for? Do people actually watch this at bars/on tv?
Depending on the bowler, an over can take as little a 3 minutes for a spin bowler, Shane Warne done it and took 2 maidens within that timeframe,(not taking into consideration the time it took for the new batsman to get to the crease) a fast bowler takes about 25 steps back and a minute a ball.

First of all, yes, folk do watch this beautiful game and some are fanatical about it (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies & Sri Lanka); others have it as a summer game, while their winter sports might attract larger crowds and passion (England, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa) and some countries are relatively new to it (Afghanistan, Scotland, Ireland).
If the above sounds a bit like that quote from Twelfth Night - 'Some are born great, others acquire greatness, while some have greatness thrust upon them,' then so be it!
A One-Day-International can last from a couple of hours up to a full 7 and a half hours, depending on how tight a contest it is (much like boxing!).
People will pay good money to watch an ODI and, once it gets to the 'business end' of a competition or tournament' can pay some pretty large sums to get a seat at the venue.
Why do people pay to watch? Well, I can only speak for myself - it is a combination of 'cut & thrust', pure skill, artistry, drama and a never-say-die attitude that can carry a team to/from the brink of success or failure. Some trophies have been snatched from the jaws of defeat and vice versa.
That's my take, mate!
Oh, lest I forget: there is also the X Factor - the unknown variable.
Take the current game between England & the west Indies: at this stage (WI 204-8 0ff 42.3 overs) England would be overwhelming favourites to close out the game. BUT, two of their most influential batsmen (Roy & Captain Morgan) have hobbled off the field of play, so England are now severely weakened.
As I said - and keep saying - it's anybody's game. Such an unpredictable scenario, which keeps cricket fans enthralled. Hope you join us in loving our beautiful game!

England too good for the Windies, with an emphatic win. Had hoped WI would upset but not to be.,
England looking in very good form despite injuries.
@RiverRat, you probably wouldn't understand the game anyway; too subtle, for some.

You know what? Sri Lanka are giving it a go, here.
They're 79-0 after 9 overs, chasing 335 to beat the Aussies.
What a great knock by Aaron Finch to get the Aussies to that total!

Strange innings from Aus, were in a great position but failed to really kick on in the end.
Let's hope for a close one after yesterday

Nope
That game is gonna be bigger than the game itself.
Politics, passion and national identity collide.
….and how good is Steve Smith,..he demands perfection from himself. He's my most favourite player atm. He, and his Captain, are blazing hot. On fire.
Australia all the way.

Indeed, I can't wait!Wonder which Pakistan will turn up. They've never beaten India in a WC game, but were absolutely brilliant in the 2017 Champions' Trophy.

Jep. I will only take you on in a 'sportsman's wager'! No money, but just for the fun of it, I will go for Pakistan, or, at least, a closer game than you suggest. Deal?
PS - Mohamed Amir has been officially warned TWICE for running on the pitch - it's only his 4th over!
Btw, when did you buy the Taj Mahal Restaurant?
