Women’s FIFA
Looks like there’s a lot of hype for tonight’s match of [home team] France vs [defending champs] USA, set to start at 9 PM in Paris (2 AM for us).
What do people think - care about it or not? Either way, should have a lot of energy in the stadium and a good match.

France on home soil is an advantage , but, I feel USA will be too good,
USA to win by 3 or more.

Knockout round and US team brimming with talent. Would be good to watch.Miguelito wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 3:53 pmLooks like there’s a lot of hype for tonight’s match of [home team] France vs [defending champs] USA, set to start at 9 PM in Paris (2 AM for us).

I think the US’s success in the past has surprised people and been frustrating to other countries, as football/soccer has not been America’s most popular sport. However, it seems a direct effect of the funding and equal rights on male/female sports throughout schooling (known as Title 9: “Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.””). It reminds me of the UK’s poor Olympic performances, then an increase in public spending in sports development, and their subsequent phenomenal performance at the London games.
Also, US isn’t looking as unbeatable after that Spanish bout. France needs to stay aggressive and push hard on the back field of the US to win.

Damn you Miggles, , I have changed my opinion because of you're last paragraph.
USA to win by 1.
Also, the World Beach Volleyball championships kicks off today in Hamburg , Germany. The Woman's games are always cracking viewing.

To me, football has always been a girlyboys game since hard tackles and shoulder charges were disallowed and the goalkeeper became a protected species. Add to this the professional acting and nancy boys who are paid obscene amounts of money and you have a "sport" that is not a sport.
Enter women's football. What a difference. Hardly any acting, players actually wanting to win and score goals. I have now found a game of football worth watching.
This is how football should be played (with the exception of the Cameroons) and highly entertaining.
Now if they can get their act together and use the video ref in exactly the same way Rugby does, we will actually have something we can watch and enjoy. (Please no more shots of nancy boy Beckham high fiving people in the stand)..
My seat is ready and the beer is in the fridge.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tournament so far but was very disappointed to hear one of the American team starting to bring personal politics somewhat prematurely and arrogantly into it. This event has been all about spreading the womens game to a global audience and it has been in my view very entertaining and sporting with the exception of Cameroon. It would be nice if we could just watch something without American political agendas being thrown into the mix.

I would add that Lucy Bronze's goal (8 secs in clip) should be compulsory viewing for all English footballers.
That is how goals should be scored. (Note to management...embedded Youtube URL not working)

@rl66 to be fair the American football/basketball etc men's teams are constantly bringing politics in to it,. For the women, on the biggest stage why wouldn't they.

Thanks.
My wife has just dropped a pearl of wisdom while watching the USA vs France match. She said "do you realise that mincing male model Beckham gets paid more for one match than any of these girls get for the entire year?".
No answer to that one. These girls are worth more than the men in entertainment value.

I liked Sweden’s goal the other night. It started from intercepting a pass on the opposite and a quick movement down field, but the end is great. The shooter was absolutely taken out by a defender and the goalie, but her eyes never left the goal and she didn’t miss a beat in jumping and celebrating.
