Are they the convict friends of the convict Rainsy?
I've been catching up on Cambodian news.
It's surprising how similar the government's response to many issues is exactly the same as the Chinese government's response to the same or similar issues. Same wording. Almost the same writer. Surely that's not possible?

Looks anti-EU to me. These people (EU parliament people) might be the ones complaining about the lack of democracy in Cambodia and are refused entry to avoid them investigate "on-site".

I believe they are all members of the UK parliament who have been misled by certain demagogic, racist and exiled peoples.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
They don't support opposition, though do "act" against unfair political systems. To be able to do so, they need to visit the countries involved. Just deny them access and they can not investigate in person, which is needed for them, to come to a first-hand opinion.
Where does it say they are acting on behalf of the EU?
MEPs, MPs, US Reps and their like get involved in causes they believe in all the time. That doesn’t necessarily mean it is official policy is the body they serve on.
EU Press coverage. The EU parliament does have working committees involved with these things and from that representation, they flock out all over the world to "monitor" on behalf of the EU Parliament. And based on their monitoring, they "advise" the EU commission on their actions. For this one, how much aid is going to be sent to Cambodia. You remember the threats, the EU would withdraw the aid ? These people check out on these things.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:50 am

He himself says he is going as a member of European Parliament to speak on behalf of Sam Rainsy:Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:50 am

And I just find it hypocritical that at every point his argument is based on “democracy”, and even in that statement he points out “elected member”, when he does not come from a democracy and his own country just appointed a PM with 92,000 elderly white guys deciding for the entire UK.Phil Bennion, a representative to the EU from the U.K. and one of those placed on the list, said “It does not cast a good light upon the government of Hun Sen in Cambodia, that it seeks to exclude elected European Parliamentarians for speaking up on behalf of the banned opposition.”
“It is more likely to reinforce the views in democratic countries across the world that Cambodia has retreated from multi-party democracy and respect for human rights,” Bennion said, writing in an email to RFA’s Khmer Service.
But it’s pretty much a moot point, he has three months left in the EU parliament anyways. Perhaps he could spend that time better campaigning for his own country’s future.

Wait, you're saying the UK isn't a democracy? Seriously Migs, after years of living outside the US, your American parochialism and ignorance is astounding.Miguelito wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 5:29 am

Please educate me on what part of the House of Lords (officially the Right Honourable the Lords Spiritual and Temporal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled) is democratic.
And my “American parochialism and ignorance”? I’ve lived in a number of countries on several different continents, with more than one Master’s degree with an international focus. I don’t believe I’ve met you, have I?

Is this a K440 brain fight? I like it. How many masters degrees do you have, Magoo?
And I absolutely agree with you. UK is all twisted up and got themselves in one hell of a bind. Nothing democratic about their state of affairs right now.

The House of Lords is not made up of democratically-elected members, you're right. But saying the UK is not a democracy because of that is like saying the US isn't a democracy because of its electoral college and its powerful lobbies. If the UK isn't a democracy, why are most of its ex-colonies, who based their systems on those of the UK, democracies?Miguelito wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:57 amPlease educate me on what part of the House of Lords (officially the Right Honourable the Lords Spiritual and Temporal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled) is democratic.

And your second point is exactly the point I'm trying to make. You're this self-described world traveller but still seem hung up on weird Yankee anti-UK "facts". Anyway, you seem riled, and I didn't intend for the comments to be personal, just part of the 440 shit giving process.
And no, we haven't met.

That's a moot point. The UK voted to exit and leave the EU. They did not. And did not again, and here we are again. What kind of democracy is that? It's becoming plain that it is completely undemocratic when the people can't choose a leader to exit, as they voted for.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:42 amThe House of Lords is not made up of democratically-elected members, you're right.
