Low Balling on paying the monthly wage.
Low Balling on paying the monthly wage.
The basic wage for someone working in the garment industry is now around the $200 range per month.
So I'm guessing this sets the bench mark for the minimum monthly income across all businesses.
Many Cambodian and Barang sites I am on keep offering jobs below this monthly level of income and are asking for University Degrees etc for the applicant to be considered for the job.
WTF ! You want me to have a degree and only pay me $180 to $240 per month.
I struggle to understand how offering below the minimum wage will attract the right person for the job.

1. The minimum wage is only legally applicable to the garment and shoes sector. Other sectors may, or may not, use other as a guideline, but in the end market forces determine what people will accept and will not accept.
2. A Cambodian university degree is usually worth about as much as a roll of toilet paper - very few exceptions
- by way of example, I once inherited a Sales Manager with 8+ years of experience in-sector, plus he had an MBA. He was totally incapable of understanding the difference between Revenue and Profit - an experienced manager with an MBA ...
3. You often need three or four Khmers working on something to actually get a full persons worth of work done on the same amount of time. Those that can actually do a proper amount of work per month are usually getting much higher salaries than those that are just filling spaces at desks in the office.
4. Low profit margins and increased local, regional, and international competition make it difficult to raise salary levels without losing companies, or customers - if the company goes bust, everybody gets a salary of fuck all per month.

Perhaps you should hold out for $280. Where's your degree from?

Let me know the most respected university you know of and I'll print a degree up immediately.

I don't think you need to worry much about being hired on the Cambodian market. Instead, why don't you tell us the background of your friend or relative and maybe somebody can help? What kind of work are they looking for to begin with?

Really? My question is: How can Cambodia's garment sector remain competitive? I've seen countless article about garment workers asking for higher pay. Would this ultimately accelerate the current trends (companies are relocating to Bangladesh)?1. The minimum wage is only legally applicable to the garment and shoes sector. Other sectors may, or may not, use other as a guideline, but in the end market forces determine what people will accept and will not accept.
Wrong. A Cambodian University degree is worth LESS than a roll of toilet paper. I've had the chance to work with a "seasoned" Sales & Marketing director that simply didn't know what a, brace yourself, marketing plan was.2. The definition of slacking bag of filth back home is the definition of a good worker in Cambodia. You're right about the salary thing though. Even then, I've had staff earning $1k and up, and they were able to do about 60% of their job.3. It would be great if the Cambodian population was more exposed to economics, finance, accounting and so on. I really feel like they (the general population) have zero understanding of any of these fields.4. Your constant bitching and moaning is getting rather tiresome. What are you even doing here if you hate everything so much?

I have a job that pays well. It's called a contract. I don't hate it that much since I only have to spend a little over half a year here.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 1:03 pmYour constant bitching and moaning is getting rather tiresome. You have no idea what you are talking about, maybe try referring to my post above about a university that does all the things you are completely ignorant about. Cambodia doesn't need ignorant foreigners coming over here and putting everything down, so sling your hook Eurotrash.

How many of the general population in the west have much of an understanding of economics, finance and accounting do you think?

Well. The percentage is low. Very low. However, in a professional environment, you would expect to work with people that have skills that are somewhat on par with yours, right?Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 3:55 pmGinkgo Biloba wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 12:01 pm

Another blatant display of Lucky Lucan's inability to control his emotions and have an adult-like conversation. As always, the lack of critical thinking and argumentative skills of Mr. Lucky Lucan translate into name calling. Absolutely pathetic.
That is by far the funniest thing I've read today. CamEd??!! A legitimate university??!! oh boy... Yea. CamEd. I think the school ranked better than Harvard and Oxford.
I'm not from Europe by the way. Nice try though. Nice try.
