Internet Access
What are the options for Internet connectivity in Cambodia? Are setup fees involved? What areas does the plan cover? What speeds are advertised? What speeds do you actually get? How much bandwidth is included? Are there overage charges?
Re: Internet Access
Metfone unlimited (really unlimited, no catch) internet, $25/ month 256kb. Might be $30 for new accounts. Mine got boosted from 128kbs to 256 free, I think new accounts are $30. Never had connection problems, not once in nearly six months, they come to my apartment to collect the money.

If you were to make a list of all the fucked up, retarded, inept, stupid shit you shouldn't do on the roads, that would actually turn out to be the Cambodian handbook on how to drive.

Re: Internet Access
I use Ezecom fiber optic. The deal is $81pm for a 1mb connection off peak and a 502kb connection during peak hours. Off peak = 7pm -7am weekdays and all weekend. The off peak connections is good and stable but the peak hours connection can be much lower than the promised 502kb. Downloads are unlimited so you can just set your torrents up when you go to bed and when you are at work and not have to worry about things. I've also found their staff to be very helpful over the phone when you have a problem.

Re: Internet Access
That's the best deal I've heard yet. What are the installation fees? And do they charge a ton for their modem? or do they try and rent the modem? Or is fiber optic the usb? and if it is the usb, can a second computer connect to the usb through wifi?keeping_it_riel wrote:I use Ezecom fiber optic. Re: Internet Access
I am on the exact same deal as KiR. Overall I'd recommend Ezecom. Most other expats I know use it too. Very good customer service by Cambodian standards. One downside is that they occasionally do a 'shared ip' thing which makes it really difficult to download from Megaupload, Rapidshare and the likes.
I use Internet Download Manager in the evening to maximize the speed of my downloads and it works out pretty well for me.
To answer Deanween, I rent the modem, but it comes within the 81 bucks. I have a router so that two people can connect on it with the Wi-fi.

Re: Internet Access
I was over in PP a couple of weeks ago and got a Metphone card for my Google Nexus 1 - the t-mobile version which operates on 2G Network frequencies GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and 3G Networks on HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100 but I could only get edge speed. Perhaps I didn't set the card up properly or perhaps the phone operates on the wrong frequency.
Anyone have any knowledge on technical aspects such as this?
Im moving to PP in the next couple of weeks and 3G would be preferable to edge speeds.
In Thailand all of the 3G packages only provide 3 to 5 Gbytes at 3G speed per month and then are speed shaped to 384kbps for the rest of the month. Is this the same in Cambodia?
Thanks.
