Dead Englishman
In amongst the recent spate of posts on folks getting drugged, no one seems to have mentioned the 41 year old Englishman who died of a drug overdose at 11 pm Tuesday night. Where? Royal highness hotel. Is it reverting back to its notorious recent past?

Haha, it's one of my favourite cheap guesthouses/hotels in town. Only been there once since they renovated though.

Nope. Eyewitness report from hookers working in bar opposite. Embassy staff were summoned. Should be in CD surely?the_purple_turtle wrote:got a link andy?

I don't think they acknowledge expat drug deaths since their in-house incident.andyinasia wrote:Nope. Eyewitness report from hookers working in bar opposite. Embassy staff were summoned. Should be in CD surely?the_purple_turtle wrote:got a link andy?

Hometown Hotel, #35 St 172SunSan wrote:???41 years old British tourist man found died in Hometown hotel in Phnom Penh
Sounds lovely:
Horrible Stay
I stayed in Howntown Hotel for 4nights and on the last day, i found out my money has been stolen. The staffs even accused me of losing the money outside and blamed them for it when i am certain as i checked my money before i left the hotel. The owner said that i should have placed the money in their safe deposit at the reception ( yes, they dont even have a safe in your hotel so the housekeeping can steal your belongings ), which i tried, but the staff i spoke to didnt know how to open the safe. So, my advice to all travellers, stay away from this hotel.
Horrid place, bedbug ridden dump
We stayed here 3 nights, and after the first night understood why they wanted payment up front! The Air conditioner put out the most feeble stream of cool air, and that only after hours of running! The beds were old, and worn out. The worst part was after we got home and realized that we were covered in bedbug bites! I had neary 2 dozen on my legs! My wife had at least 1 dozen on her legs. We were lucky that we didn't bring any home with us.
This place is a dump, not worth the $25 a night they charge.
avoid this bedbugs and cockroaches accomodation...
We came to Phnom Penh on New Year's eve, 2010 after a long trip from Vietnam and checked into Hometown hotel as the room for $20 seemed nice and WIFI in the lobby worked ok.. In the middle of the night I turned on the light as there was something that disturbed my sleep.. To my dismay I saw thousands of fat red bedbugs covering all my bed... I rushed downstairs to the receptionist who was happily sleeping on chairs behind the counter, and asked him for another room. Which was found, next to the one with bedbugs, and there were dead cockroaches on the floor... In the morning we moved out of that dirty nest of bloodsuckers and its unfriendly stuff.. Try to avoid this kind of "hometown" hospitality! .

Nolan Games Peter?
I love how they always screw up the names. I'm guessing his name was Peter James Nolan.

I thought the name Nolan Games Peter sounded somewhat regal. But I guess you're right, the top search result for "Peter James Nolan" (w/ quotes) on Google looks like a party animal.gavinmac wrote:Nolan Games Peter?

English National Found Dead on Bed in the Hometown Hotel, Drugs Suspected
Wednesday, 14 September, 2011, 14:24h
Phnom Penh: An Englishman was found dead in room 306 of the Hometown Hotel, located at 35Eo on Street 172, Village #5, Sanghat Chay Chomnay, Khan Daun Penh, at 8:30 on the evening of the 13th of September. The first impression of officials is that the person died from a drug overdose because in the room he inhabited they found a bag of a crystalline white powder.
Authorities state the dead Englishman’s name as James Peter Nolan, age 41, holding passport #707720424. He had entered Cambodia by the Poipet International Border Crossing on a tourist visa. He first registered at the Hometown Hotel where he had been staying, on the 2nd of September at 5:30 in the late afternoon, and had changed his room many times since then. On the 12th of September he had changed his room to room 306. At 7 in the evening of the same day, he left his room and sat down below to use the internet for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, he went to the front of the hotel, sat down and had 3 cans of beer. He then bought some fruit which he carried to his room.
The same source states that on the 13th of September at 8 in the morning, the Englishman went downstairs to browse the internet, before disappearing somewhere. He reappeared about 12 noon of the same day and went up to his room. At 7:30 in the evening of the same day, the manager of the hotel summoned staff to knock on the Englishman’s door a few times, but without results. Suspicions of the manager then being roused, he had staff open the locked door with a key. Suddenly, the Englishman was seen on his bed like he was asleep face up, but was in fact quite dead. Authorities were then called.
One of the investigating officials stated that they found a small bag of a crystalline white powder which they suspected to be “ma ice.” Therefore, the initial supposition was that the victim had died from a drug overdose. After the investigation, the body was handed over to a representative of the English embassy situated in Cambodia for keeping in the Calmette Hospital morgue.
It ought to noted here that it was during the year 2010 that 2 other Englishman died in a room of the same Hometown Hotel, and authorities have stated that these two deaths were also due to drug overdoses that induced heart failure.

Thanks porky.
This is very Khmer. I can just imagine some girl performing some mundane task like dusting in the lobby, silently observing the comings and goings of some random westerner, making mental notes of the time he leaves, the time he returns and what he has in his possession at any given time.porky pig wrote:He first registered at the Hometown Hotel where he had been staying, on the 2nd of September at 5:30 in the late afternoon, and had changed his room many times since then. I've been on a few benders where hotel staff were sent to check on me - or I received a call from the front desk asking me if I was OK. The calls made me feel somewhat embarrassed.porky pig wrote:At 7:30 in the evening of the same day, the manager of the hotel summoned staff to knock on the Englishman’s door a few times
