How many expats live in Cambodia?

Does anyone have a source for a recent figure or can ballpark an estimate?

10 years ago it was 30,000 with more than 1/2 being NGO and Teflers and the rest being mostly "business people", now I would guess it's over 150,000. These figures include Chinese, Indians and all the other Asians plus other expat low life. The 30,000 was a figure I was given but can't remember by who a long time ago and the second is just a conservative estimate and is probably way too low!

judging by this forum, i'd say there're about 20 expats living in Cambodia.

The rest are either perverted embassy personel, retarded frenchmen, and too-excited drunken first-timers who usually got themselves shot in the asses. Of course none of them are qualified to be the true expats in Cambodia.

Expats here are THE elite group, like the khmer elites in their lexus and range rover, the expats are in drove in their daelim and a few odd Tico here and there.

A lot of those might be Vietnamese tooing and froing across a porous border.

I dont believe that there are anything like that number.
I would guess white people about 30,000 and others about the same.
Outside of phnom penh,siem riep and snooky virtually none.

Probably about right for the whiteys but the total number of expats will be a lot larger when it includes all the Chinese, Viets, Koreans, other Asians etc.

As I suggest above, I think the great bulk of Asians will be Vietnamese. I don't think expat Chinese and Japanese amount to a huge figure. Regarding Koreans, about 60% left when the property bubble burst as so many were in construction. I heard the current figure is possibly 3,000.

The French embassy states the number of registered French citizens in Cambodia. Don't know about other countries. There's a thread about this already, maybe a year old.

But that's the thing: you need to register and only a tiny percentage actually do so even thise figures are flawed.

Of course they're flawed, but they also estimate it's flawed by about 100%. Meaning if there are 5700 registered expats, there are about 5700 unregistered ones.
