Slowly getting used to life in PP. Surprised to see a rat nochalanty strolling across my living room this evening. Searched the forum and more surprised to not find anyone else previously asking how to control this vermin? Poison, traps?

How is it getting in? Any way to prevent approach of the interloping rodentia?

Usually rats won't enter a building if they don't know of an exit point different to the way they came in. So you must have a couple of gaps in your defenses .
Bollocks to it all.

While you're looking, check that you don't have a dry U-bend following a toilet bowl in an unused bathroom... I couldn't figure the route of intruding vermin out until I saw their footprints in the dust.

It's not always a great idea to poison them, as they can die in some cavity and stink the place out for days. There is some new kind of pellet that makes them so thirsty while they are dying that they crawl off looking for water somewhere. Those snap-traps don't seem to work too well, they just set them off and then come back for the bait. The cage traps seem slightly more effective, then you just have to figure out how to deal with the live rat. It's a shame you can't buy air-pistols or rifles here, it would be fun to shoot them. I'm pretty sure it's been covered here before, there was this on the front page: http://www.khmer440.com/k/2012/02/an-ir ... -penh-rat/

I think traps are the way to go. Anyone know a trapper here?

Yup, a dry U-bend was their way in. Topped it up and didn't have any more problems. Maybe they don't like sumps.

It's not exactly rocket science, unless you feel like paying for an exterminator service, do it yourself. You could try putting the trap out with some bait without setting it so the rat gets used to it and trusts it.
