you even need a belay, hit me up. only thing that made its way here with me was my harness and chalk (somehow my shoes vanished... still can't figure that one out) but i'm good for some bouldering and theses cheap foam mattresses make decent crashpads.

Make sure you have enough funds for medivac, as a good bone break can be fatal here.

in 12 years of climbing the only thing i've ever broken was my nose (long story) and a toe... it's actually a much safer activity than people think so long as you follow the rules and don't get stupid.

hahhh yes love all the comments, and yes i know theres the inherent risk with climbing, but i think theres a 500% higher risk of getting something broken in streets of phnom penh

No gyms but Olympic stadium has a very fierce bouldering wall upstairs. The excellent crash pads perished and have gone so it's now a hard landing so take some padding.bbaston wrote:Anyone know of any rock climbing gyms in phnom penh or any climbing outside of PP?
Siem Reap has a fairly good wall off route 6.
Both were built by Japanese, who, if the rumours are true, are proposing to build a decent wall here in Phnom Penh.
In terms of real climbing (sorry), there is a decent amount of rock if you are prepared to travel.
Skun, 50+km away over the Japanese bridge has some good bolted routes. Sparsely bolted and some loose rock.
Kep has several crags with bolted and trad routes. Kampot has some impressive hillside crags to be climbed, if access exists.
Battambang, Poipet and Siem Reap also have rock faces with varied degrees of exploration needed, with bolts on the more accessible ones.
Bouldering can be found in Sihanoukville, Phnom Kulen in Siem Reap and on the way to Phnom Tamao zoo (very abrasive rock).
A guide book to Cambodian climbs can be found in Monument books, and there are a couple of websites too, with new routes.
Between the guys that I climb with, we have all the necessaries for bolted or trad routes.
If you fancy coming out we go to Skun quite often in the dry weather, so get in touch. Checking out the Kep climbs next weekend, hopefully put up some new routes if all goes to plan.
