Siem Reap – An Englishman was found dead in his room at the Vimean Angkor Pich Hotel in Siem Reap Town yesterday afternoon, the 28th of December, 2012. The hotel is located in Ta Phul Village, Svay Dongkum Commune, Siem Reap Town, Siem Reap Province.
The English citizen has been identified as RAMSAY DOUGLAS SHAW-MACKENZIE, born 1989, holding passport # 801060433. He had entered Cambodia via the Phnom Penh International Airport បានធ្វើដំណើរចូលមកប្រទេសកម្ពុជា (ក្រុងភ្នំពេញ) on the 24th of December, 2012, and had registered at the above mentioned hotel on the 26th of December just past.
Major Heng Pich of the Technical Sciences Police Department of the Siem Reap Police stated that, according to the medical report, the male victim had died from a self-administered drug injection in room 303 of the Vimean Angkor Pich Hotel where he had been staying. In his room were discovered a quantity of syringes and packaging from a specific drug. The victim apparently had entered Cambodia alone and had been staying at the hotel by himself. There is also the possibility that the man may have been dead since yesterday. His body was discovered by cleaning staff at the hotel when they breached the door to his room with their key after receiving no reply to their knocks.
Among those present at the scene where the victim’s death was being investigated were the Siem Reap provincial prosecutor Som Rithsokon, the doctor from the Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital, police officials from the Technical Science Department of the Siem Reap Provincial Police, and police officials from the Department of Tourist Management of the Siem Reap Provincial Police.
As dusk now approaches and authorities continue their investigation, reporters await additional information regarding the tourist’s death, such as the indisputable cause of death, the evidence found on his person and related matters. Police stated that the body was taken to the Siem Reap Referral Hospital later the same day where it now remains awaiting disposition on word from the British Embassy.

An insulin overdose is possible.vladimir wrote:It said 'packaging'. Wouldn't that imply pharmaceutical rather than recreational?
Dictated to a slave and sent by carrier pigeon.
I'm guessing drug overdose (the naughty kind).
Again, this is Porky's translation, so maybe they didn't find any actual drugs, but found the obvious baggy/wrapped up tin foil, etc. ...

In the 3rd paragraph. សំបកថ្នាំ should be translated as empty syringe bottles, and not 'packaging.'

People abuse pharmaceuticals as well as street drugs.vladimir wrote:It said 'packaging'. Wouldn't that imply pharmaceutical rather than recreational?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Special K? Morphine?

Agreed, but they don't normally package street drugs with the manufacturer's name, package insert and expiry date.Lucky Lucan wrote:People abuse pharmaceuticals as well as street drugs.vladimir wrote:It said 'packaging'. Wouldn't that imply pharmaceutical rather than recreational?
ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
I've been told that the pre harbour snooky cut is up to 3-4 times harder than your average street joe back home, better find a good cheap hooker to keep you awake, if been going overboard, otherwise welcome to the black (w)hole

$10 to $20 a night.
Seen it before, looks like good value.
If he left PP in less than 48 hours for SR, he sounds like a freshie tourist. I doubt he'd jump on the smack after 1 day in town. And "specific drug" sounds like a legal, labelled one.
My guess is he mixed drugs or didn't do a proper dose of a medical one. Sad if that is the case. Cambodia isn't the place to be alone with a chronic medical condition.
