Phnom Penh Visions
Phnom Penh Visions
I have visions of unused space like the Tonlie Sap Lake being filled in to build hi-rise apartments. Don't tell me it cannot be done as we already have the Bongkak lake as an example. Sand could be dredged from the Mekong for the filling, and if the Mekong was dredged to a depth so super-tankers and super container ships could tie up at PP riverside, that would be even better. Got to admit I stole that idea off a lawyer who is now behind bars.
My other vision of PP , although I'm asking a bit much here, is to have a rubbish collection that is capable of keeping rubbish off any ''unused space'' in the city.

Hmmm...one's a lake and one's a river? Simple question; if water not go in river, where water go?Duncan wrote:

Rubbish idea has some merit. Just give every family a wheelie bin, businesses as required.

OK , I'm a little bit behind the times, so tell me when did they change the Tonlie Sap from a lake to a river. What Your Name? wrote:Hmmm...one's a lake and one's a river? Simple question; if water not go in river, where water go?Duncan wrote:

"Tonle Sap" is the river. "Boeung Tonle Sap" is the lake that is filled by the Tonle Sap (river).
So, you say "Tonle Sap" (for the river) and "Tonle Sap Lake" (for the lake). Clear?

But I thought that was precisely what the King did twice a year in Phnom Penh...starkmonster wrote:Khmer proverb: Kings can't move rivers but rivers can move Kings.

An elevated train or tram running along Monivong would be cool but a design like this wouldn't last 5 minutes as half the pillars would be splintered by drunk drivers every night.

fill in the tonle sap lake and instead of the lake raising up 8 to 10 mts a year duing the wet season, phnom penh would be well under water, dregding the mekong river will only cause massive land losses along the river banks, valuable land and homes lost.you need to move phnom penh first and than every other settlement along the river,oh and kiss goodbye to the lively hood of 100,000 fishing people.
