Getting sick
Most of you guys have lived in Cambodia for a while..... Do you get sick very often? You have a quick search online and the info is all doom and gloom etc etc. interested to hear it from the horses mouth.
Don't mention the Giant Panda in the room.
The very moment I arrived in PP I've been at death's door...if it isn't the aggressive tuk-tuk drivers, the thieving street urchins, the rabid missionaries, the groping beautiful young hostess bar girls, the barking vendors in the market, the whispering pot sellers...I'm threatened everyday and I'm scared witless. I'm shaking as I write this...Marvin wrote:Most of you guys have lived in Cambodia for a while..... Do you get sick very often? I wish I had never left "home" but I've been robbed nearly every week by burgulars, pickpockets, taxigirls, barefoot kids, neighbors, crack heads, etc...so now I'm broke and I can't even feed myself in the wide array of excellent restaurants offering affordable well-prepared cuisine from all over the world...
I even lost the gun that I smuggled into the country...it's over for me now - I'm hunting the gutter for a syringe with some brown liquid to shoot up and be done with it all...PP will kill you and I've been here just 18 years now...fuckin' 'ell...wish I'd never come to this god-forsaken place...
I love fish and chips with vinegar in newspaper!!!
Yeah, in local language it's called a hangover....or if it's a French hangover, a "gueule de bois"...(Try the Harpoon gin and you will see what I mean.)
Getting thick?
Some days it would be difficult to imagine a place being much thicker, to be honest.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

That's exactly the what people think will happen to me every time I go to Cambodia.......never been sick once apart from self inflicted sickness. Been there plenty of times now. Mates have mine have spent years in Africa also with out incident......imagine how long how long "Dagenham" could rave about how hard he is if he lived in Africa for 180 years........man I would almost be compelled to fly over for an autograph and a handshake.
My apologies for asking such a stupid question about simple "non brag topic"

"I never used to get sick much until I joined Khmer 440. Now I feel sick nearly everyday"
You can use it if you like.
Amoebiasis is rampant in PP, not so much the unsanitary habits of the Khmer, more to do with the wealthier ex pats sticking their fingers in the pies. Have you seen the state of their hands?
All sorts of medicine can be found in the local pharmacies here, some healthier than others.

K440 : Lucky cheese for the gentry; poultry and death for the peasants.

In the 10 years plus I've been living in Cambodia, common colds and flu are frequent, as well as stomach ailments (gastric fever, gastric flu, bloating, stomach burns, etc.).
But nothing that can't be dealt with with over-the-counter medications or adjustment in diet.
You most probably will be sick for 3 days like a dog, though. After that, you'll be able to eat everything and anything.
