Fishing Tour near Phnom Penh?
Hi all, would be really grateful if anyone is able to recommend a good 1-day fishing guide for areas around Phnom Penh. I'm not really into fishing but my father is coming over soon (never been to Asia) and is excited to go fishing on the Mekong. Looking for someone who can take us to a good spot and provide equipment and bait etc. Have read that Soun Soben is the best place to fish - is this fair?
I think that is the fishing ranch. it is not really fishing. more like shooting sleeping fish in a small barrel.
I don't think you'll find any decent fishing in the Mekong mate...certainly not as we know it.....

Tell us more about the fishing ranch! Better than nothing!

If you cross the Mohnivong bridge and go about 6 kilometers, there are two recreational fish farms. Go just past Le'Imprevue ( which has now changed its name to the Green Place or Green House or something similar)..................and make your next right at the gas station, they are both down this road.
The first one is on your right and is a fish farm and a Guest House. They have a concrete pond with shaded verandas around it. The cost is 3.00 and you pay by the kilo if you want to keep your fish. The atmosphere is not all that great..................but it is a fun afternoon and you will generallly catch four or five fish an hour.
The seconde place is another kilometer or continuing up the road and is on your left. This place has three or four natural ponds and is really a stunning place. The grounds are beautiful and there are nice birds and animals around the place. It cost about 3.00 per hour. The bad news is...........you may not even get a bite. I have been twice for three hours each time and came back empty handed. There are some huge catfish in there if you can catch them.
If you have the time...........take your dad to Buhnsumrung in Bangkok (not sure if I spelled it right). It is not cheap, I think I paid about 5000 baht all in for a day of fishing...............but you are guaranteed to catch giant Mekong Catfish all day long. I caught 15, the smallest one was 25 kilos and the largest was 65 kilos.
BTW, I went fishing with a mate on the Tonle Sap one day on his boat..........and I was surprised that we caught several catfish, so they are out there. There is also a popular fishing spot on the banks of the river near one of the bridges over to Koh Pich. There are many people there in the evening and it is a fun spot to get a line wet.
Good luck
