Lasik Surgery
Are there any doctors in PP doing lasik surgery? I've seen the ad above, however the surgery seems to take place in Malaysia.

My buddy here went to Malaysia for it.MekongMouse wrote:Are there any doctors in PP doing lasik surgery? I've seen the ad above, however the surgery seems to take place in Malaysia.
Personally, I wouldn't even dream of having it done in PP. (I had mine done in the US back in '04...I still marvel almost daily on how great my eyesight is now...a full 10 years after the surgery!!!)
Your eyesight isn't something to Cheap Charlie on.
Best of luck!

I understand there probably aren't any Cambodian doctors qualified to do this, but I hoped there might be a foreign doctor. Oh well; no big deal.
Thanks for the replies.

try Bumrungrad in Bangkok, they're using the latest wavefront lasik.
however, lasik has too many drawbacks in my opinion, you'll regret it and when you're old you'll get cataract.

Check the ad at the top of the page. Camlasik. Trained in the UK and operating here at the Royal Phnom Penh hospital when it opens around 8 October.MekongMouse wrote:Are there any doctors in PP doing lasik surgery? I've seen the ad above, however the surgery seems to take place in Malaysia.
Ask for Dr Lee
(Apologies for the shameless plug to a K440 advertiser)
My surgery has been a mixed blessing: I was so short sighted I couldn't see the faces clearly across a normal sized living room! The doctor advise me to save my money (I had mine done in UK a few years ago) and have only one eye done. I thought having only one good eye was weird and would still require me to wear glasses when driving, so I got both done anyway. The result was that in less than an hour later I couldn't read normal text without classes and in good lighting, whereas I could read any small print in moonlight! When I complained that nobody warned me about this, the doctor insisted that it was normal at my age - 43 at the time - to become long sighted. If that was the case, why did I even inquired about the surgery?!
Meanwhile, my mother had LASIK surgery to cure her cataract in Finland, though the procedure was different from mine, and she still hardly even needs classes at the age 77!

There's an article about the 'Hard sell' techniques that a UK laser eye surgery business is using, and the denial of the risks involved in today's Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014 ... ye-surgery

Interesting article, but not really surprising. Optometrists already practice these sales techniques with glasses. It is unfortunate, but a small part of a broader issue where health and wellness is just another commodity.

I had a radial keratotomy in 1989, 20/20 vision for around 15 years thereafter, then gradual deterioration.
No one told me at the time how long it would last, I assumed the improvement was permanent.
Now, back to glasses and very poor night vision.

Yes, upon researching it more I'm reading quite a few stories like yours, vlad. I think I will hold off and if I do get it, no way in hell it would happen In Cambodia. Oddly, it actually appears to be roughly the same cost in the US anyway.
