Suffering jetlag in Phnom Penh
Suffering jetlag in Phnom Penh
A new front page article from Bertolt Bieber - an evocative description of grappling with jetlag on his first couple of days in Phnom Penh.

"I found a bottle and guzzled it down. It didn’t help. My thirst had become metaphysical; it was the platonic form of thirst - infinite and unquenchable. I grabbed my watch; it was 2pm. Last night’s sleep came in at 16 hours, an insane amount of sleep. That’s double the normal eight. And I don’t even like to sleep for that long. I’d sleep for Thatcher’s four if it didn’t give me a headache."

I had jet lag so I drank extra coffee, went to sleep at 9 pm and woke up 7 am having conquered it.
The end.
The end.

Gripping. Could have gone into a bit more detail there, young Kerouac!I wasn’t feeling horny but I masturbated anyway, releasing semen in short, primitive spasms.

I wonder if his bed room at mummy and daddy's place still has all of his favourite teddy bears arranged neatly on his bed?
Mum and dad are counting the seconds waiting for his return ,and all of the crazy tales of his 5 minute adventure in Asia. Btw I am betting he had a tissue ready also......because mummy always does it that way for him.

Don't mention the Giant Panda in the room.
I would like to see some articles about different provinces, villages, places to go in Cambodia. Not articles where the author makes it solely about themselves but focused on the place they are visiting/living. Maybe some aspiring young Khmer author can write about their village and porky translates.
Restaurant reviews are also good.
Not articles about jet lag.

I liked the piece more in its form than its substance. It reads very much as "Dear diary" but still written well enough to be consumable and entertaining. When I was reading, I felt it was like a very vivid, visually aggressive slo-mo scene from a movie.
Good effort. Hope to read something more substantial but still with that intimate touch next time.

I agree. The style is nice, but it reads like an excerpt from a book. I have no reason to identify with the protagonist and thus it just becomes a story of the mundane.Joon wrote:I liked the piece more in its form than its substance. So some random guy was tired, he wrote about it, and it made front page news? I can't remember what he wrote because he basically wrote nothing worth remembering. Something about breathing in hot air and then he went to sleep.
Cool story bro

My favorite part is when he came.Rib wrote:So some random guy was tired, he wrote about it, and it made front page news? I can't remember what he wrote because he basically wrote nothing worth remembering. Something about breathing in hot air and then he went to sleep.
