GoPro Clone- Thoughts?
I came across this GoPro style clone camera and spent an hour researching it. From what I skimmed over, it seems to compare quite nicely to the GoPro 3 (hero?). Regardless, it is $99 USD. I have seen a few people around Phnom Penh buy and sell groups asking about GoPros and also GoPro clones.
Here is a link to their website- http://www.sjcam.com/en/home/27-sjcam-s ... t-dvr.html
Here is a google results page. Many reviews that look decent to positive. https://www.google.com.kh/search?q=sjca ... pr=1&rct=j
Do you think that a few people would want this via the buy and sell facebook groups, khmer24, here etc etc? I am thinking about getting one because although I know I wouldn't be doing anything crazy, I have always wanted a mountable/waterproof GoPro. For as little as I would use a GoPro type camera, the $300 GoPro price tag for 720p video is out of my budget.
So , thoughts? I know Ricecakes, overpriced.

We were discussing this in work last week. The verdict was that it's too cheap, and is going to break in 5 minutes. G opros are known for their toughness, I guess it's worth checking out one of these if it's only 100, but I have my doubts.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

There are many clones out there ( of the GoPro) for sure. I was just intrigued by the positive reviews. Even some youtube videos comparing.Lucky Lucan wrote:We were discussing this in work last week. Just wondering.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. GoPro is highly overrated. They charge more because they can. Sony and the Drift Ghost are solid cameras. GoPro just has the first mover advantage. For 100$, it might not have the same picture quality because it has an inferior image sensor or whatever, but it'll likely do for 95% of users. A lot of professional GoPro footage needs to be highly edited anyways. Most users are too lazy for that and just want decent video quality.
I personally have a Waspcam. Bought it for only 60$ brand new from some dodgy guy who probably stole a crate of them (worth 250$ or so at the time). Works just as well as the GoPro and back then, it was the only one that could sync/stream a live feed to a smartphone in order to adjust the camera angle. The mounting system is also way better than GoPro's. I also bought an adapter so I could hook it up to GoPro mounts, as they're more readily available (would have to import from Oz or possibly Europe otherwise). I couldn't be more satisfied given the price I paid. I've had it for roughly two years I think and it's held up to a lot of abuse.

This relative newcomer is getting a lot of attention: the iOn. It has no case (so better sound) and overall the same video quality as the GoPro. It's much better under some situations, slightly inferior under others. Tons of tests and reviews online. Way more simple interface as well. The clincher is that it's much cheaper than a GoPro. Only thing that would worry about is having that protruding lens (and no case), but reviews are still really positive. I've heard good reviews from guys on a motorcycle forum I frequent, so I've got my eye on it as my next camera.

The only thing that GoPro has on others is that their mounting system is available pretty much anywhere. But what's funny is that it's not even a very good design. They vibrate a lot and get flipped back often (either from wind or a bump/shock). The original mount for my camera is a far superior design than the GoPro mounts (you align notches, which are then tightened, so it makes it stay in place. Also easier to adjust the angle as you can count the notches). But most other manufacturers have realized that they can't compete with the variety of GoPro mounts so offer "universal/GoPro" adapters.
I say you should definitely look into other companies before going for a GoPro. They've upped their game, but GoPros originally had a terrible menu system, cumbersome controls and crappy mounts. All that for an increasingly high price (who the hell needs 4K? Not the average user at this point in time). It's easy for other companies to capitalize on their shortcomings and offer an equal or superior product for less money.

That newish motoX shop under the Japanese bridge in the area of those tractor/agricultural shops was advertising that type of camera on their Facebook page a short while ago.
2 models, $80 and $90, with the more expensive having some kind of wireless feed, iirc.
Maybe worth a look if you're in the market.

Wonder if anyone around Phnom Penh would want the one I linked in my OP for $90-$100.
Facebook expat buy and sell.
Has anyone shipped anything to Phnom Penh Post office from. China? Basic Chinese post or whatever? Any scoop on that?
Thanks.

No one is knocking GoPros DM. It's a tried and true product. Their popularity is a testament to their durability and quality. But as you noticed yourself, there are new players out there that offe similar products for much cheaper. I doubt anyone in Cambodia has tried the specific one you mentioned, as it's made by a very small/unknown company. To be honest, for 100$, I suggest you go ahead and buy it and let us know how you find it (build quality, picture quality, durability over time etc). I just sent you a PM regarding shipping stuff over.

$64. Better specs than GoPro, accessories include a pet mount. Saw this yesterday, good reviews, no idea on quality/durability, but for the price I think I'll get one.
