Should I come back or should i just fuck it off?
Lifelong expat. The minute I saw that planes got me out of rainy home I fucked off. I've been lucky, lived in untold places all over the world. Still a lot more to see. Two and a half / three years of my life in PP and Kompong Som, Wouldn't ever change that for a million dollars, really, It's a piece of me. Not trying to get in a pissing contest. Found a way to facilitate whatever I want really, through work and sacrifice of course, know any other way? So what would you do? Not a millionaire , but enough to figure something out anywhere, go somewhere new? or go somewhere you know you love?
Seeing as you have already stayed in many places. Place you love makes the most sense.
I've loved all of them,I'd be a liar to say otherwise., even the really shit ones, but you're right

cambo/thai has changed to the point of no recognition. am seriously considering the fuck off option myself. expat anywhere is pain in the arse now too so considering the passport place. thats desperation/frustration personified. but far less hoops for you to jump through there. and resign from all forms of life and just exist. must be age getting me.

Home is where the heart is.

I'd have to support RainMan on this.
Find a place you like being at..
And then just wander from there to other places of interest.
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

For me the question is not if, but how much would it need to let it be done safely? $250k? $500k? A cool million?
I'm at the age and stage of my career where it takes a huge amount of willpower to say, fuck it I'm not going to work anymore. For people in their early fifties like me the "how much is enough?" question is all consuming.

Go to somewhere you like and explored the world.

If you haven't lived here already, consider Hanoi.
Good:
Cheap, chill, and far from violent. Very far.
(For those so inclined, lots of Karaoke joints with beautiful girls who are not exceptionally greedy or exceptionally evil--just concerned about money)
Beer Hoi!
Sub-Tropical means more seasons.
Bad stuff:
Pollution sucks.
Taxi dude tries to rip you off only about once of month.
Gym memberships are priced out of this world.
Conclusion:
If you can hang with the pollution and summer heat, it's an awesome place.
Cheers,
GBH

Poipet? No, seriously, I knew a retired Aussie who simply wandered around the world, keeping mainly to SE Asia for its lower cost of living. He fought off some young muggers on the riverside one nite; tough bloke, retired labour lawyer.
