"Other" expat communities?
"Other" expat communities?
Hi,
I was just reading the K440 nationality poll and, no surprise, it was mostly North Americans, Aussies and those from the UK who responded. However, obviously unless you're a native English speaker, a lot of K440 is really hard to follow and even if you are, the drunken rants and obscure references to movies or music and such can be even more confusing. I myself don't understand at least half of the posts on this forum.
So, I am curious about other expat communities that are around. Obviously the Asians (Japanese, Chinese, Koreans) have a massive presence here and the Russians have seemed to flow into SHV recently, but I am curious to know of others that might be around.
Are there any "other" language forums about Cambodia? How about group gatherings and what not?
Just curious

The Russians may start to flow out since the European sanctions over Ukraine have cut the ruble in half.AE86 wrote:Hi,Are there any "other" language forums about Cambodia? How about group gatherings and what not?

There are a number of Turks in snooky. A greasy spoon on top of the hill over independence beach. The only place selling ayran the salty turkish yogurt drink, but it looks like he uses water from the big blue bottles, so I stopped drinking it.
Another turkish business down the hill near the beach access roads next to the tourist police. Turks are so elegant and cultured it is a joy to have them around.

What's up with the big blue bottles?Timeslot Enigmatic wrote:The only place selling ayran the salty turkish yogurt drink, but it looks like he uses water from the big blue bottles, so I stopped drinking it.
I was going to ask the same thing, I thought that would have been a good thing vs. tap water.

He never stops nagging at me about it, and is also pushing for a Welsh and Dutch sub-forum. And Khmer. With Jessie as moderator.
I believe there is a Russian expat forum. There was a thread started by a Ukrainian guy living in some deadwater town in the sticks, and the Ruskie forum was mentioned.

There is also a very big Philippines community here. Perhaps 440 needs a Tagalog subforum. You can't walk around town without seeing a new Filipino restaurant opening.
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.

2nd the Facebook suggestion - it's maturing nicely and has lots of local groups.
