metal fabrication
metal fabrication
Anyone got any recommendations of a skilled and reliable metal fabricator in Phnom Penh? Small scale pipe bending and fine welding as well as Aluminum welding.
I've never seen any metalwork by a local fabricator that even approached the quality of that of a beginner student in the west.
Fine welding?
Right through from utterly pathetic (if any) surface preparation; sizes eyeballed not measured, then parts hacked out with a blunt spoon while looking over a shoulder; to parts barely clinging together with birdshit welded joints that don't mate flush and never will, and that end with all surfaces spattered with the wrong filler and with regular holes burned through; then either half-painted by a blind man with a lumpy stick, or slimed with goo from a random paintgun spitting shite looking much like overchewed cornflakes sprayed at a bad joke.
I have seen pipe-bending jigs here, but not small scale.
Good place to start would be the shops making / selling 'stainless' tube racks, handrails, safety rails, swings, etc
here's a random of the type of place I mean:
https://www.google.com.kh/maps/@11.5495 ... 312!8i6656
The type of shops normally clump together, and their materials suppliers are very often close by.
271 is a long road, but contains many such small manufacturing set ups. No doubt there are others.
Are you making jewellery or motorcycles?

Forget it, with the family business, ALL of our aluminium welders came from Vietnam and were well paid (because they often hated being in Cambodia and left after the first month). Even the stainless steel welders we hired were all ultimately Vietnamese.

For quality work Bryan the Kiwi in Takamao, not cheap but expert. Google Smoky the Boar, his butchery business. It's difficult to find anyone to weld aluminium in Phnom Penh, Bryan doesn't do it.
Thanks, I was weighting up the chances of getting a competent person to weld up a set of racks to hang panniers on the bike. also had a vague thought of getting a bash plate made up as well.
