It looks like he had a family here in Cambodia - a wife and three young children. He prayed on his Facebook page a couple of weeks ago to help his mother recover from an illness. Perhaps she didn't make it.
RIP.
RIP.
Terribly sad, especially for the children.
But what's this all about:

Perhaps he should have gone to church.scobienz wrote:He prayed on his Facebook page

If I topped myself I'd use pills or a BMW S1000R.

I haven't particularly given it too much thought but a heroin overdose would be a peaceful exit with a relatively clean corpse to clean up.YaTingPom wrote:If I topped myself I'd use pills or a BMW S1000R.
Yes but I've never done heroin so I'd mess it up and be more of a vegetable.
I've a mate who suffered from depression in his teens. He kept it quite and we often had discussions about death. There was nothing I could do to help him.
He joined the army years later and saw action in Eastern Europe and Afghanistan/Iraq. He was shot twice and blown up. He stayed in the army for 25 years.
He said to me recently that it was the first time he was scared of dying especially when his colleagues all died in the explosion. He now gives talks about fighting depression and works at a charity dealing with teen depression. Brilliant role model.

Leaving a wife and children behind changes the equation for me. Man up and take care of your family isntead of taking the cowardly way out. He not only ended his own life, but he threw all their lives into turmoil with most probably a very uncertain future.
..and if you disagree with me, you are one billion times WORSE than HITLER!!!
Exactly.
Tell me. If a mentally ill person decides to take a walk on train tracks one day would you call them a coward or selfish?
People who kill themselves are suffering from depression. They are mentally ill. They're not thinking straight. They think they're helping their loved ones.

Not in every case either.
Perhaps he had a terminal illness. Perhaps he found out his children weren't his. Perhaps he was murdered and it's a staged suicide. Perhaps he discovered his wife was cheating on him and wanted divorce.
Not all suicide is linked to mental illness and very little suicide is cowardly. It would take enormous courage to enter the realm of the unknown with no way back.

Schopenhauer on suicide:
"They tell us that suicide is the greatest act of cowardice... that suicide is wrong; when it is quite obvious that there is nothing in the world to which every man has a more unassailable title than to his own life and person."

Fair point. I'm only going on my own experience with family and friends.Gin&Tonic wrote:Not in every case either.

I may be wrong but I think people are predisposed to suicide from birth. It's just what triggers it and when.
