Went to check on my chickens last night as usual, catching any stragglers which are too stupid to go in the house, when in one of the coops I saw this fucker coiled up with a pair of chicken feet coming out of it's throat.
Gave it the old badgerbadgerbadgerbadger A SNAKE! A SNAKE! and the old bat came out with a sickle and decapitated it.
Can anyone give me an ID, I know it's not an eating snake, and to my knowledge non-venomous and had really beautiful skin, like a rainbow. If it had stuck to rats, it would have lived. All 3 feet of it.
Snake ID
By the colouring, it looks like a sunbeam snake - Lord Lucan probably will have more of an idea!
Yeah, that'll be the one. Explains the constriction of the chicken. Poor thing, a beautiful animal, but it's a kill first, find out later policy on snakes out here, we get a lot.
Sometimes get kraits in the house, which I believe are hella venomous, but for some reason these are chased out by a very long stick and have rice and perfume lobbed at it for 'luck'. Don't ask me why.

Never seen anything like it, the colouring is obviously brighter because of the camera flash or artificial lighting but still stunning.chubacca wrote:By the colouring, it looks like a sunbeam snake - Lord Lucan probably will have more of an idea!

That's a Xenopeltis unicolor out of the sunbeam snake species. These snakes are constrictors, killing their prey by suffocation (NOT POISONOUS).

If you're going to live like a savage you better at least find out what pests you're laying down with. Bet you'll run for civilization and Western medicine if you get bit.
