Lucky Supermarket
Lucky Supermarket
I've started to pay a bit more attention at the check-out recently and have noticed several times that the prices displayed in the aisle are not the same as those charged at the checkout. The most recent occurrence being this morning when they attempted to charge me an extra dollar for a box of instant noodles. The previous times it has happened I have just let it go as it's only small money and the shop is busy and I simply can't be bothered to question it. This morning, however, the shop was near empty and the noodle section was only a few steps away so I walked over and checked. There was no sign showing the price they wanted to charge me, only the lower price that I was expecting to pay. The girl called over a supervisor who looked and then walked off, presumably to an office. Had he had the courtesy to explain where he was going I may have waited for an outcome, but as he hadn't I left after a couple of minutes of waiting, leaving my purchases at the checkout.
So I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this...?

Why are you buying mama noodles at lucky? Any minimart will happily warm them for you.

It works both ways. Occasionally they price an item wrong, like $0.11 for a huge red pepper, instead of $1.10. When it happens on the ground beef or steak you get a real bargain, as the checkout staff are only listening for a beep, not checking prices.
I would have done what you did and just walked off too. In fact I don't think I've been in lucky sihanouk for over 2 years after a similar incident happened and I could only shrug and walk away, or else risk full blown expat meltdown right there at the till.

I noticed this recently buying some cheese. The display was priced at $4 something, and at the checkout it rang up as $5.30. Edam it, I thought, this cannot brie. Didn't upset the dairy cart and go crackers, but stilton, I was a little cheesed off.
I usually shop at 9 Dragon Mart now, decent enough selection and far cheaper than Lucky.

There's a reason Khmers watch cashiers like hawks, and it's not for the same reason gavinmac does.slavedog wrote:I've started to pay a bit more attention at the check-out recently
Sometimes you get a stupid one, sometimes you get a devious one.
And what sometimes happens is you get the worst, the combination of both.

More disturbing I'm finding that Bayon/Thai Huot are running out of stock of some of my regular items & apparently not restocking after a few weeks - English mustard, my preferred coffee, fish, nuts, ginger beer, etc. The emergency substitutes are very 'Lucky-esque' quality

Same thing happened to me, i was positive the Wild Turkey bourbon said $0, but the pricks wanted me to pay for it, outrageous.

This. I never used to check supermarket receipts or restaurant bills; since my GF checks, I have come across so many mistakes, sometimes in the favor of the business, sometimes in mine. I do not think it is always intentional, but in a country where people need a calculator to figure out how much change to give you when you spent USD 6.00 and hand over a tenner, this is bound to happen.vladimir wrote:There's a reason Khmers watch cashiers like hawks, and it's not for the same reason gavinmac does.slavedog wrote:I've started to pay a bit more attention at the check-out recently
