Are cars worth more if they have never been owned by a Khmer?
Follow my lame Twitter feed: @gavin_mac
Good point.
Although I'd avoid any car owned by you!

Damn prices of cars are high in Cambodia, a 2007 car 11000. Probably in 3 years the price drops enormous
I hope you're not suggesting it's overpriced ?bartderks wrote:Damn prices of cars are high in Cambodia, a 2007 car 11000. Probably in 3 years the price drops enormous
That would be my job.

There is no replacement for displacement. Very few things give me such an ethereal thrill as a large V8.DetroitMuscle wrote:I think Detroit is finally figuring out that small displacement engines +boost >>>> naturally aspirated V-8s.
The trend across the industry has been downsized, blown engines. The Europeans popularized this in the wake of An Inconvenient Truth, despite the japs doing it for years. And you're right, sadly the Americans were the last to react to a trend in the auto industry (again).
BUT If you separate the enthusiasts from the hoi polloy - I put it to you that vehicles produced at the absurd heights of The Great German Power War of the oughts; the V8 RS4, the V8 M3, the V10 M5, the stonking C63 AMG - all big block and all naturally aspirated, will become future classics. Not so much their blown successors.

I agree about nothing like the feel of a big engine at your feet and hands.
My father bought a brand new Corvette a few years are back. Tits. I get in to drive my first Corvette. I looked down and shockingly said "what the fuck" pointing to the automatic transmission gear lever whilst looking so confused. A swarm of emotions flooded me at that point. I've never been ashamed of my father until that day back in 2013........fucking brand new Corvette with an auto-tragic tranny.
I still can't believe it to this day.

You dad bought you a brand new corvette!? Fuck!
The V8 is an endangered species, but you Yankees will be the last ones to make them.
I think when I eventually return home to Aus I'll buy whatever is left on the market as a matter of principle. I suspect either a Mustang or Camaro will still pack one. Wish you guys would lift your game with the quality of the interior plastics though!
The NA V12 will live on for some time, but only in very niche products; GT Lambos, Astons and Ferraris is my bet.

My dad bought himself a corvette. I wish. Didn't Chevy just put out a ZR1 Camaro?Petrol Head wrote:You dad bought you a brand new corvette!? Fuck!

Plastic. The 75 thousand dollar corvette had THE same fucking grey plastic dash as my 25k Cobalt.....
Almost shat a brick on that one.
But yes, it was and remains my father's. Hehe.

Also, PH, why would you buy American versus Holden(which is owned by?) buy let's not get technical, just curious as last time I checked, Holden was still doing big V8s? Just curious. We fucked that new Pontiac GTO up badly where as I think Holden's version was a lot better.

Cars in Europe and Japan are small, agile and well made. Not only do they have tiny blown engines they also have fantastic chassis', sumblime handling, brakes, interior and many a racing pedigree.
Evo, STI, Focus, Audi S models, Mazda MPS and so on.Even the base non turbo models are impressive.
Yank cars just have a big engine with little thought to anything else.
No replacement for displacement...if there's nothing else to enjoy. (Unless its a HSV)
You don't need power to enjoy driving a well sorted car. MGB, Original Mini, MX5/Miata, Peugeot Rallye/205 GTI etc.

^ historically true, with the exception of The Great German Power War, which out Yanked the Yanks for about 10 years there.
As I said, examples being the V10 M5 and the logic defying, 6-litre twin turbo V12 S600 with 1000Nm!
It's a bit like the gun debate - I don't think colonial petrol heads and Europeans will ever see eye to eye on what constitutes a desirable car because our driving experiences are so different. We (Aussies and Yanks) were always GT markets, not full of narrow streets and mountain passes. Those taut European chassis and low profile tyres are nice to bomb from Munich to Stuttgart, but aren't much fun on rural B-roads.

Eh?
They are for B roads! The big Mercs and BMW are for motorways/freeways that's why they are called "bahn stormers", as in autobahn.
The small and mid sized hot cars imprezza, Subaru, Nissan, Mazda etc are built for b roads, and the occasional dirt road!
However. I agree. Yanks/Oz need different cars to the rest of us.
I drove a HSV Maloo in oz for a few months and whilst it was a hoot it was a bit unwieldy in the countryside where there were bends!
I also had a V8 thing in the US but I crashed it, damn oversteer! (Straight road)
