Do white folk dislike air conditioning?
I've observed this confounding phenomenon in tropical climes. And it transcends economic (not limited to cheap Charlies) and cultural strata. "Westerners", Russians and even Israelis seem to favor sitting outdoors than in air-conditioned environs. I thought at first that they seek to tan their skin, or that it may be due to trauma from having grown up in the snow- but that doesn't make sense when the sky is overcast and rainfall has just occurred. As even after it rains they seem to prefer to sit outside in the sickening humidity.
So, why do you do this white people?

I hate using air con, especially in hot climates, doesn't make sense sitting in air con then going out into the heat, great way to get a cold/flu. When I do use air con, it is normally set at 24°C, nothing worse than going places where they set the ac below 20 so you freeze ya ass off.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

The weather and outside temperature have nothing to do with contracting the common cold or the flu- they are caused by viral infections.PSD_Kiwi wrote:I hate using air con, especially in hot climates, doesn't make sense sitting in air con then going out into the heat, great way to get a cold/flu. Think it's true, or certainly it is with me. I always sit outside. Overall on the domestic front, I keep its use to a minimum. I don't like using air con at home, but I do because it gets stuffy inside and sitting in your own pool of sweat is not, uh, cool. However, my usual 26C setting is mostly to keep the humidity down. In the even-more sweltering hot season, air con is a must, 24/7.

I spent most of my life in Australia where there is plenty of sun (very high UV), so I prefer inside. I hate sitting outside drinking coffee or whatever and getting sunburned.
But when with my relatives either in Netherlands or New Zealand, they always want to sit outside and chase away flies for every lunch or coffee/tea breaks.
I think it's just habit.

Don't find its that necessary in SHV. Have only had it only when real hot in April for an hour before sleep to take the heat out of the room and then set to 30c. my phone says its 27.5c right now with 83% humitidy and sitting with a fan on low I feel a cool breeze.
A lot must depend on your place of residence the last one I had never got direct sun only every needed a fan but in April it was on high. Now in light airy many windowed 2nd floor 2 year old apartment so normally the windows are open and a breeze blows a lot of the time.
And I hail frae Scotland where you usually need heat on!

A/C is on, all the time, as low as it will go, period. When I come back from a run, I do not want to sweat for the next 24 hours.

And do you what's breeding inside those AC machines unless you keep them really, really clean, change filters regularly, etc. etc? Exactly... bacteria and viruses.brownexile wrote:The weather and outside temperature have nothing to do with contracting the common cold or the flu- they are caused by viral infections.PSD_Kiwi wrote:I hate using air con, especially in hot climates, doesn't make sense sitting in air con then going out into the heat, great way to get a cold/flu.
