three cussion bilard / carambole

In Vietnam you find all over in HCmin but in Ppen so far I did not find

If you go from Monivong to Psar Orussey turn left on first street (105),
then on the left side of the street you will see a small Vietnamese shop, with a billiard sign outside.
About 5 or 6 billiard tables, reasonable quality, not heated.
They charge 2 dollar/hour for barang (maybe 1 dollar if a lady is on duty).
They will even supply you with a glove !
Open all day, can be busy, then you will get the worst (last) table.
If you want some exercise call me, 0976670981, I will be back in PP next wednesday.
I prefer 3 cushion.

Not sure if they still have a table BUT i would sometimes go in the pool hall behind the Volley ball court behind the post office off street 98 or there about heading towards Wat Phnom.

The 'best players' mastered white ball control on these pocketless tables. Move onto the 9 ball table and you have the likes of Jackie Gleason, showing his skills in the 1961 film, The Hustler. All the shots he played in the film were his own

There are many different games for a billiard table. All with only 3 balls.
In general you have to try to hit with the cue ball the other 2 balls.
The only problem with 3 cushion is that for a valid point the cue ball has to hit 3 cushions before making the final hit.

I have learned that when dealing with Americans sometimes subtle jokes don't work.LaudJohn wrote:Khmerhamster wrote:Is 'Pocket billiards' also a euphemism for you guys?LaudJohn wrote:Considering someone recently said you were an expert in pocket billiards, that surprises me.gavinmac wrote:I just learned that there's a game called 3 cushion billiards

Everyone is special in their own way, right?
diff between american pool, its variations & carambole, (i believe, twas a belgian
invention too, like the fries. might be mistaken), is, that, if you're proficient, the game
itself becomes boring. It is, like said above, basically about controlling the position where
the white ball will stop. Back in the day we established a new rule regarding am pool:
no direct shots allowed. Carambole is much more like chess whereas am pool more like
batman, the original series. POOF, POW et al.
PS: in the tropics, no need to heat the slate(s), italian is traditionally the preferred.
Many tables in SEA have a wood board underneath the cloth, which doesn't preempt
some of the guys from becoming champs. i remember Na Thrang, where i was beaten
4 times in a row by a local. I was like next time i'll get you, but he was bored already

I grew up playing one pocket but moved on to the fast money game 9 Ball
Straight pool just took to dam long
U can never beat a local on tables with a wood board vs slate as he knows the roll of the table
