Seems only virak buntam and rith mony are the only two doing this route.
I can"t stand buntham's dual pricing policy / making up prices even at their office, whereas, khmers are saying avoid rith mony. Buntam also annoyingly stopped at their "partner hotel" in KK to extract every possible dollar out of backpackers pockets for an hour extended lunch..
before continuing onto the border. Sometimes i used to just get my own motorbike, but still get screwed at the border as the deathvans dont go as per schedule - but wait until theyre full...
meaning i have to wait the extra hr for backpacker bus to catch up anyways.
Erm. Ok ranting a bit. Question is... is rith mony really that bad now (i dont wanna break down or have vomit splashes or cancelled trip cos yesterday they said no customers for the following day!). Also anyone know the exact street nos location for their olympic/kampuchea krom area office .
Similarly, does virak buntham have an office outside centre of city .. not riverside. Cheers

VB a dollar more expensive for big noses - they say because insurance is more expensive.
Reassuring that they (possibly) have insurance - believable that it is more expensive for foreigners.

That one will have more expensive insurance too - well, if the taxi has insurance.QED wrote:Why not take the front seat in a share taxi?
Ans be careful the driver doesn't sell the seat twice and you have to share it. usually the pretty girl shares a seat with the driver, and you end up less lucky.
Insurance is a red herring. You need your own insurance in any case for medical cover. What else do you need from the bus company insurance? Unless you are planning on driving the bus.
Thanks replies.. this is what i found.
Rith mony (riverside office) 8 dollar but many khmer people saying even they wont use it. 7am 9am 1am something like that but never any customers (does that mean pick ups every 2km hmmm). Riverside office incapable of explaining where the mao tse toung office is. And also tul tuk drivers point in all directions about its location. Clueless.
Virak buntham (riverside office) 8 dollar barang 6 dollar Khmer. 7.45am. They also offer deathvan maybe 11 dollar with a late 1.30 pm option. As the hat lek to trad whitevans are unreliable and corrupt, i dont trust crossing the border at 7/8pm.
Drive past the taxis near central market and you get mobbed. Was quoted front seat 25 dollar but think he would come down to 20. Fast option but i think the front seat passebger takes the brunt of the collison wirh the artic when they do their blind overtaking. I had brown stains after 2 hrs SR to PP so i would probably faint after 5hrs next to Bong Alonso going down to KK.
Pity PPSorya stopped the route. Was a decent fixed price with slighty later departure time.
Anyone knkw if paramount angkor express closed down. Wadted hours trying to track them down.

Virak Buntham said they will pick up PAX opposite airport. But no office as such, so dont trust that option. They said it works fine if your buddy can speak khmer with the driver and verify the pick up
Yes, I once crossed that border at 7pm and there were no minibuses to Trat. They work fine in the daytime, however, in my opinion. Why say they are corrupt and unreliable?mai wrote:Thanks replies.. this is what i found.

I have taken the morning VB big bus to KK, it was OK. So what if it does stop for a few minutes at their hotel in KK?
I would say the share taxi is safer than the minibuses. If you pay for a full front passenger seat, you should get just that - no sharing. Doesn't stop the driver sharing of course! But I think the police have stopped all this overloading of taxis, they have on route number 3 to Kampot, so I imagine ditto route number 4.
BTW, I'm not surprised you had some nervousness if the driver did SR to PP in 2 hours.

Olympic got me from PP to KK a few months back, I can't remember the price which means it probably wasn't expensive, arrived at KK about 4PM
...Always in my humble opinion...
I love all people, I just don't like them near me.

2 hrs SR to PP, must have been a Ferrari @ full speed flying along the empty road.mai wrote:Thanks replies.. this is what i found.

About front seat in a taxi: the good thing is you'll be able to wear a safety belt (usually), which will save you in case of a minor collision. 20 USD doesn't seem unfair. Usually the taxis charge the same as a minivan, except they'll try to cram twice the amount in one seat.

SR to PP, meaning poipet not pnh !
VB bus to KK was half full. No barangs. Definately dual pricing confirmed at office and a friend called.
First stop is PNB Phnom Penh Bakery opposite American Bridge Intl School. Great option if u live/hotel is west of the centre. A 10 min moto ride to there beats the 50 mins it took to drive there, stock up on cakes and move on.
No more Sre Ambel stop... now at the SHV route food shops. Border drop off included in price. Exactly 6 hrs as quoted.
After living in thailand a few years and reading newspapers, i try to avoid vans and long distance taxis.
