VW Enters Cambodian Market

Postby Bong Burgundy » Tue Nov 21, 2017 3:40 pm

Phnom Penh: The German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen, which has been renowned for its reputation in Cambodia since the 60s, celebrated the inauguration of a luxury and modern high-end car showroom on November 20, 2017.

Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Industry and Handicrafts, said that Volkswagen was a high-quality brand from Germany. He recalled that since the 1960s, Volkswagen's 'Beetle' car was very famous in Cambodia in the 1950s and 1960s before the war, but after the war, the Volkswagen brand had disappeared.

"Today, HGB Group Co. Ltd started rolling out Volkswagen to Cambodia. People who like cars will get the same good feeling as before. "

Jan Redecke, general manager of Volkswagen sales, said the partnership, HGB Group Co. Ltd. will be the only distributor representative selling small cars for families and passenger cars for business. The showrooms are focused on car sales, quick service, and accessories. It is also the only place in Asia with state-of-the-art technology and the best after-sales consulting firm with skilled personnel training.

He said that this was an important investment for HGB Group, to create a customer service center with international standard and give the true experience from Volkswagen that customers can trust.

Graeme Newport, Deputy Director of HGB Group Auto, said, "In recent years, Cambodia has continued to move towards an important part of the ASEAN Community, with steady and stable economic growth and a focus on infrastructure development. This clearly reflects the influx of foreign investment that has flowed into the country and the increasing number of international brands that are imported by local companies, and it is with pride HGB Group Co. Ltd., has become a part of this development ".

HGB is seriously investing in Cambodia at the market - a drive down Russian Blvd shows it. Wonder when they expect their ROI to come in.

Was that report written by a child or just badly translated?

"People who like cars will get the same good feeling as before."

"He recalled that since the 1960s, Volkswagen's 'Beetle' car was very famous in Cambodia.."
I think he means popular.

"but after the war, the Volkswagen brand had disappeared"
Not very reliable then. There's shit loads of Beetles in the UK and Australia.

"small cars for families and passenger cars"
So cars then?

"stable economic growth and a focus on infrastructure"
 Oh you!

"experience from Volkswagen that customers can trust"
The same VW that lied about omissions. Right. Trust. Ok.

Sort of joking. Good for Cambodia but VW are not a premium brand like Audi, BMW, Mercedes and >cough< Lexus.
Oh long will old Ireland be seeking in vain

Newsmakers @ 440 have not done their homework - VW has been established in Cambodia for many years prior via Hung Hiep - albeit very poorly run and sharing a workshop with Mercedes - which to the best of my knowledge had only ever occurred elsewhere on a small island in the pacific.

HGB seems grossly overextended - I have no idea how they plan to split the mainstream brands - their stable mate, Mazda has been a resounding success for HGB in Cambodia. Same story at the super premium end with the Rolls Royce / Bentley double up. Makes no sense and I would have thought made the honchos at VW and BMW very uncomfortable.

Only on planet Cambodia.

Yeah, what the hell is wrong with them? Why didn't they just get some spare parts imported from West Germany or hit up the nearest Custom Bug shop? 8-)

I was told by someone in the know that the local distributors are losing money. Not surprising as they only get a few sales per month, so no way to actually make a profit. The manufacturer probably breaks even but that's it.
