Town hall meeting at US Embassy

Postby lemo » Wed Nov 22, 2017 9:30 pm

got an invite from our regional headquarters -

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh is pleased to invite interested U.S. citizens to attend a town hall meeting on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Ambassador William Heidt and other Embassy officials will be present to answer your questions regarding U.S. interests in Cambodia, consular services to U.S. citizens, and other topics that guests wish to discuss.

is this a regular thing? anybody's going/have been?
i was hoping for an invite to a Thanksgiving dinner, not town hall.. with turkey being pardoned of course.. or replaced with chinese duck.
i'm curious, but afraid i'll ask some stupid questions if i go.. like opinions about Trump's presidency.. or current CIA operatives count now that CNRP is dissolved and NDI expelled.. etc.

It's a ploy. Every attendee will be detained and deported.

Well based on the Ambassador’s more than politically correct remarks at the Marine Corps Ball, where he heralded President Trump’s success and was just about to mention the opposite for “democracy” here, before stopping himself, I don’t think anything of political interest will be said.

If any Americans go, perhaps you can ask how he feels the free press is doing in the U.S. after it’s been shown that Russia meddled extensively in the election with paid advertisements and trolls on social media, which the president won’t condemn, at the same time the president started the #FakeNews thought process. Or what he thinks about investgating/jailing the opposition... you know, Hillary, who has been investigated for years and even put on the stand for 12 hours on live TV, and always cleared by even a Republican controlled house. Or, if someone is really brave, they could ask why the U.S. has cut their funding in the past week for mine/unexplored ordinance clearance, when they are UXOs dropped by the Americans 40 years ago.

Nah, just ask how to register a baby after they’re born here, that’ll be worth an afternoon off of work to hear.

Reduced or not, the US continues giving large sums of money to clear UXO despite the leader of the country publicly telling US interests to get the fuck out of Cambodia. And there are plenty of UXO all over Cambodia not "dropped by Americans" that the US has funded the cleanup of also...many of which were made and sold by HE's new puppet master to the north.

Released on November 22, 2017
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for a $2 million, one-year grant to survey and clear unexploded ordnance in Eastern Cambodia for the 2018-2019 Fiscal Year, with the possibility that the grant could be extended for a second year. Eligible partners would use state-of-the art methodology to clear land of unexploded ordnance in Eastern Cambodia so it can be made safe for farming, roads, commerce, and housing.

“The United States has supported humanitarian demining in Cambodia for over 20 years and is committed to addressing our war-time legacy. This new tender is a continuation of those commitments as it will further aid in the cleanup of the remnants of war,” Ambassador William Heidt said. “We are looking for the best national and international experts to help remove unexploded ordnance in the east of Cambodia.”

The application deadline is January 16, 2018. More information about the tender is here.

The United States has spent more than $131 million over the past two decades to locate and remediate not only unexploded ordnance of U.S. origin in Cambodia’s east, but also the Chinese, Vietnamese, and Soviet landmines in the rest of the country that account for about 90 percent of casualties caused by war remnants

The #fakenews thing started right after the election of Trump. CNN, MSNBC, and other outlets tried to explain the election of Trump by saying that a bunch of enterprising Macedonian teenagers spread fake news and clickbait on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

What evidence do you have that Russians "extensively meddled in the election with paid advertisements and trolls on social media." What website did the Russians advertise on and how much money did they spend?

The US still has press freedom and free speech unlike backward countries like Spain, France, and Armenia that jail people for simply stating the fact that the atrocities committed against the Armenian people do not constitute a genocide as defined by the United Nations.
