Australian Army Skills at Arms Meeting 2018
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
A little OT but the other week i was outside Hanoi at one of my fishing spots and there is a large Viet Army base out there. You can look in to parts of it quite easily and as i rode past I noticed soldiers doing a dry fire exercise with new AK47s. There were three lines of about 50 soldiers in each line. First line lying down. Second line kneeling and last line standing . All with weapons in the firing position. They were all wearing brand new blue camo unifofms ( strange choice for bamboo ridden vietnam ? ) and the olive pith helmets. I stopped to take what would have been a truly epic photo but was stopped abruptly be an officer " no photo no photo". he was quite nice though. came over and asked me where i was from and if i had caught any fish etc. The soldiers waved.
Vietnamese army from what I have seen +seems+ to be about 400 times more disciplined, equipped, able and ready than the Cambodian army. You get the feeling in Vietnam that about 80% of the males could pick up an AK at the drop of a hat and get on with it. The other 20% are the little nonces wearing horn rimmed spectacles and sipping lattes but they'd probably be viet intelligence.....so better make that 100% are ready to go.
