Plastic trash in SHV
That’s up at the village near the port and it was like that in 2014 and probably before that.
Also, “Sihanouk” is a king, or road. Sihanoukville is the city.
If that was my town or village and someone was taking photos to show how messy we all are I’d be pretty pissed off!

True. Sihanouk was a prince, king, president, prime minister and other things but he was never a city.YaTingPom wrote: Also, “Sihanouk” is a king, or road. Sihanoukville is the city.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
The plastic trash problem is spreading to beaches in the USA too

Nothing wrong with that that a bit of Photoshopping can't cure.Spigzy wrote:The plastic trash problem is spreading to beaches in the USA too

The people to blaim here for this huge plastic problem is de weak and leftish leaders from the EU and other Western countries. They have been sending money to cambodia and other countries for ages and thought this money would be used to improve things..
as some of you here might know.. not even 1$ is used to tackle these and other problems. You can start pointing your finger how bad the leaders are.. but you have to understand they are different, have a completely different way of thinking and culture especially when it comes to money. We are the dummies to think and try to change their attitude which is impossible.
All the money we send over is only making it worse for the avarage "Srey Pich and Bong Heang" ("average khmer Joe") Land is bought away from the money we sent by the groups who run the country and even buying or renting a small space to live or a bit of farm land becomes harder and harder for them.
first step would be to never ever send a single dollar$ to any third world countries. second step would be allow paid western teams/companies (NOT NGO'S!) to take care of the plastic trouble and teach the locals how to continue. Set up processing factory and so on. And if those governments don't want that than pressure them with sanctions.
last but not least will be to let them actively prosecute those who will litter and teach schools to teach the right thing and so on.. but this last sentence is again a bit dreamy people just think completely different here! As most of you here know is that they don't like to correct eachother.. And also the police will not correct all of them maybe only some poor locals.. so this idea forget it only if government will train their police..
yesterday I was eating seafood in a khmer restaurant and the soup came on an aluminium pot with normally a candle under it to keep it boiling.. I was like what the hell is this plastic smell and black smoke. When I took a closer look... the idiots had used plastic as a buring medium! just stuffed it in a metal candle holder type..
It is not the first time I see they burn plastic to cook on! A few months ago I came across a lady cooking up some soup on a stone cook type of thing usually used to cook with charcoal. I smelled a horrible plastic smell so when I looked I first didn't see what was going on.. until she actually fuelled the fire with more plastic!!!
Ofcourse I quickly told her to stop that and told her that it is bad, but as usual their standard thing " its ok it doesn't matter"
And for the rest yes it is true that everywhere there is plastic polution because simply everywhere they litter and everywhere they are doing their pick-nicks.. Yes yes especially in the National parks!
And only in tourist areas they are trying to show they charge money for a plastic bag and so on.. But when I was at the lucky supermarket I saw a local already object on it and he still got his plastic bag for free !
The plastic mountains around the country are a problem but the burning and let it smoke are even worse because basicly ALL of the farm lands are covered with fine powder/plastic ash... They burn their plastic daily. Just drive from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and around 18:00 they will all start to burn their plastic. Those are rice fields heavily contaminated with plastics and other toxics.. But also in the city they still burn their plastic.. Probably around your area just go outside at diner time maybe you are lucky and no waste burning around your area.. but to you I would say.. "comming soon.. "

There are a few different types of "fire-lighters" available here. One that used to be popular was those soft plastic water bottles but you don't see them anymore. There's a type of nut, it looks like a giant date stone, and they are ok if you can afford them. If you can't afford anything you can just use some pieces of bark and dry grass and plastic bags. If you have a bit of cash to spare you can buy the shredded rubber chips, made out of tires or inner tubes or something, they are used to start barbecues and as you can imagine are fairly toxic.

While Flip flops cut outs do seem to be the favored bbq fire starter, fresh palm oil tree fruit nuts are amazingly efficient for this task.
Regarding SHV trash current situation, having an easily accessible garbage room to keep it dry and away from animals also guaranteed us to be awarded the neighborhood highest collection rate from the new company
