We have had a security alert from one of our hotel members in Phnom Penh. The first time the man booked under the name of either Sreyna Chan (from Indonesia) and then Johna Tooemache (from Australia), books through Agoda as a last minute reservation with an invalid credit card. Agoda cannot charge the customer so they cancel the reservation, so payment by customer. The customer comes to check-in and explains that someone stole his bag, so he doesn’t have a passport, credit card or any official documents.
Please see the attached picture from security footage.

Hotel scammer in Phnom Penh
I saw this alert (interesting scamming process):
In a totally unexpected turn of events for a junkie after falling out with his landlord and losing his cat "The Notorious" Ned Kelly finds somewhere to rest.
Chalk one up for the Aussies.

Is that scamming process any more interesting than someone just showing up a hotel and asking for a room with no money and claiming his bag was stolen?Miguelito wrote:I saw this alert (interesting scamming process):

Agreed, not a scam per se; hotel staff not respecting SOP.tarariverboat wrote:i can not see any scam here at all,you will only get scammed if the staff allow him to stay.no money no honey and all of that

Of course it's a scam. It's lying to someone to extract something of value.Hanno wrote:Agreed, not a scam per se; hotel staff not respecting SOP.tarariverboat wrote:i can not see any scam here at all,you will only get scammed if the staff allow him to stay.no money no honey and all of that

OK, I am not going to argue semantics. Fact is, if staff/owners would follow SOP's, they would not lose money.gavinmac wrote:Of course it's a scam. It's not in the nature of a 25 year old Khmer front desk girl to tell a white guy to fuck right off.Hanno wrote: OK, I am not going to argue semantics. Fact is, if staff/owners would follow SOP's, they would not lose money.

I ran a hotel in Siem Reap for quite a few years; nobody ever got a room without some sort of guarantee.gavinmac wrote:It's not in the nature of a 25 year old Khmer front desk girl to tell a white guy to fuck right off.Hanno wrote: OK, I am not going to argue semantics. Guy turns up at a hotel with no money, tells the staff he has no money and asks if it's ok for him to stay there.
What did they expect? That he'd be visited by the tooth fairy during the night?
