I'm currently in Kathmandu.
One thing you cant but help notice is that the most popular meat in restaurants is buffalo, or as they call it here- "buff". Buffalo chow mein, buffalo momo's. Buffalo thukpa. It's everywhere.
Pork is a raririty here. Hindu's must be close to muslims in some respects.
I'd always assumed a buffalo would be as sacred as a cow though no? Like, they are pretty similar no? They certainly look similar to me. Maybe if anything the buffalo looks abit more dignified.
And goats. Goat meat is common here. But how are they different to pigs? Like pigs ,they literrally eat anything and everything.
I'm confoozed.

That's what i thought until i spoke to a hindu lady here in the capital. Definitely not seing much pork here if at all. Why is that?
Really lovin the Tongba's here. Abit like a warm english mulled wine. Shame they make you go for a piss all night though as you top them up with water 3 or 4 times, oh ,and you have to wait 7 minutes for the alcohol to soak into the water so i find myself sitting on my hands for 7 minutes.
Someone should start a Tongba bar in the KOW. Damn good they are.

This got me wondering whether buffaloes could mate with cows so I Googled it.
There are some very sick people out there.

I think it depends on the area and people, I remember seeing pig farms around Pokhara. Apparently "upper-caste" Hindus don't go near it, while Tharu, Sherpa, Rai, Tamang do.spitthedog wrote:That's what i thought until i spoke to a hindu lady here in the capital. It's posted in the travel section, as the OP was an expat in Cambodia and is traveling around with his Khmer gf. Has a few things that tie into Cambodia, as there's certainly a lasting Hindu presence here (it's still against the law to roast a cow on a spit within viewing distance of the road, for example).bigal1 wrote:sorry but why is this posted on a Khmer forum?
